Hmmm... Are those phones with a dedicated audio chip slim 3G phones <10mm like W880, W890 or a 12.5mm Slider like W910? We're not talking Desktop PC's here.

Wow. That should silence some of those up there who simply don't want the best for themselves just 1out of loyalty. Weird

I'd rather have a phone that's 17mm thick with brilliant sound quality and great loudspeakers than have a thin phone that doesnt even live up to the name WALKMAN.

I'd like to know why SE W980 (and W902...) show amazing quality then, without a DSP.
Let me remind you that most chipsets do come with a unit to process the audio. Also, it's pure talk these days.
It's like "oh it's got a CPU", but people forget to say how fast it is.

Dedicated chips are almost always better than ones that multitask. I have to admit SE excels in software optimization, just think how advanced they'd be if they paired that with dsp. That's what we're talking about. Wouldn't you like it if SE did that and come out tops without a doubt in the audio dept?

The fact that TESTfactory, or whatever their name was, crowned the W980 tells me that they don't need it. Sure it would be nice to see SE come out on top time after time, but I don't think they want to or need it.
For me, a lot of these discussions seem like the 16 mill. vs. 262k colour discussions, etc.
Don't get this the wrong way though, I'm sure a DSP does a good job, but I'm more than satisfied with the quality of my music phones, and I have to admit that I haven't tried all of the latest music phones with a DSP built-in, so I can't say if there's much of a difference on the ones I haven't tried. But generally speaking, normal people won't be able to hear the difference, or even if they could, it would be a marginal difference.

@Mizzle
IMO they need it to be the absolute best like what people believed they were when the SE Walkman line was introduced. People don't believe that anymore and SE needs to build the hype which reviewers will certainly create out of their excitment that will really help declining sales. And 'normal people' that you claim don't need convincing do compare, that's why most are going for Nokia/Samsung solutions, attributing to their declining sales. Don't say they don't need it just because Miles Flynt is an idiot

how many people here who say DSP doesnt make a difference, have actually tried the N91? because if you have, and still you say DSP doesnt make a difference, then there must be something wrong with you |
