K850's don't use micro SD cards they use M2 memory cards, you might want to check that you are using the right card.

The K850i uses microSD and M@ but not at the same time... i have a 6GB microSDHC in my k850 right now...

as for the microsd problem.. i believe it might have something to do with the card? try formatting it on your computer if u can.

Yep K850 supports both MicroSD and M2. Rather try format that memory card in your phone.

Just to confirm: SD cards go in to the slot with the writing towards the back of the phone.

Hi everyone,

I signed up specially to answer this question... that's how happy I was when I found the answer

In case this case is still ongoing, or others might want to know, here is how to reformat your memory card on the Sony Ericsson k850i but I bet it's about the same on similar phones from SE.

1-Go to your Main Menu
2-Select Organizer
3-Select "My Stuff" (should be top of the list)
4-Select the "Memory Card" tab (might be optional, see 7)
5-Select "Options" (left soft key on your screen)
6-Select "Memory Status"
7-Select "Memory Card" (this is why 4 might be optional)
8-Select "Options" again (left soft key on your screen)
9-Select "Format Memory Card"

It will let you know that you'll loose all information on it, so back-up when needed.
One more hint though, if your memory card is somehow corrupted, then backing it up might not really solve it at the end.
That is, when you copy a corrupted file from your back-up back on the memory card, the problem might re-occur.

And since I registered just to let you know how to do this, I feel free to give you one last advice...
Be careful with all the stuff you download and put on your memory card (ringtones, themes etc...)

Erm, you can only put it in one way, the M2 the other way. So maybe you broke the port by forcing it in the other way?

It may be software problem aswell... You can try updating the phone with SEUS or flashing it with totalgsm for e.g.
