Hey,

For years I've wanted to join the police force, in year 9 I went to some police day at my local college where we got to see how the station worked, looked at their cars, the cells etc and since then I wanted to join, but it's only really this year now that I've finished school that I have been looking in to it.

I applied at my station when they were doing a recruitment drive this year in April, and I got a letter through the post about it, but since I replied I haven't hear anything back.

So I'm currently looking to improve my chances and try and apply again next year, I'm thinking about signing up to this course tomorrow:

And I'm going to look in to becoming one of them *joke* officers, you know, the community support officers so that when I apply I have some experience and proper qualifications for the job I'm going for.

Can anyone else offer any advice on the police force?

Thanks

All I'll say is this, the "joke" police offers as you put it, actually get paid a decent ammount for a starting job and can lead to bigger and better things. And from what my cousin and one of my ex-collegues have said, it's not much different from being a PC, you just spend more time wandering about the streets (good exercise lol).
My opinions on this forum are that of my own and not of the company I work for.

Nono don't get me wrong, if someone offered me the job mate I'd be over the moon, I was just saying it from the comments you here people make.

Are you sure they get paid though, I was under the impression it's voluntary?

Nope, deffo not voluntary. If you're a 'special constable' then thats voluntary (I know someone who does that, it's pretty shit really lol, he only does it because the real police turn him down all the time ), but being a PCSO (Police Community Support Officer) is a fulltime, full paid position. My cousin just started after his 7 weeks training and I can't remember quite how much he gets paid, but it's over £11k a year at least.

Plus, he's only got GCSE's and some diploma thing from college (free education, aka further education, not paid for etc) to do with the public services. And he was worried a low GCSE in Maths would fail him, but they let him in anyway

Yer, well I've now got this police thing to fill in tomorrow, and off to college to check out the course I listed in the first post.

I'd love to join the police force in any way at all but I've applied before and then didn't hear back, and tbh I'm expecting the same thing this time.

Been talking to my mum because I'm getting lost, I'm only good at IT and I can't get a job in that area, and I'm desperate not to spend the next few years working somewhere like poundland or tesco.
So I need to do something and fast.

She wants me to follow her best friends son who joined the RAF when he was 17, I'm 20 so I'm not too old.

We've just been looking at jobs they have available, and their police force and fire department require a minimum of a G grade GCSE maths and English, well I got C in English and F in maths, so I'm ok there!

There are also some other jobs I could see myself doing, so I'm going to read in to them tomorrow and then phone up the nearest RAF office and ask if I can make an appointment to go see them and talk about a possible career in the RAF.

I'm quite excited about it, this time last week I was getting application forms for my local theme park and corner shop as I was kinda getting to the giving up stage, now I'm in the "Change my whole life" mood.

Problem is though, people tend to say "it's impossible to get in so I wouldn't bother" or "It's very hard" etc etc, negative comments which put me off as I'm your average joe and there's always going to be someone better then me.

So before I phone the RAF tomorrow, anyone any advice?
