From SE to Nokia |

For some of you i will be considered unfaithful, for others an wise person but whatever, listen to what i have to say about SE. First of all the first ever SE phone i ever got was an SE T68i, at that time was one hell of an phone brilliant at the time and if i am not mistaken was the first phone with blue tooth. Then i got the t300 a good but not brilliant phone ( i only got it because it came free with a camera attachment for the phone, ah the good old days of crappy VGA res photos). Then i got the k700i, now that was a brilliant phone at the time, i got it when it first came out, that was the phone which made me really proclaim that SE were the best mobile phone company in the world. It kicked the crap out of the 6310 and 6310i so favoured by the unintelligent nokia crowd. Then the beauty that is w810i came out and i fell in love. by far the best phone that ever was at that point in time. The w810i took beautiful pictures (if u don believe me check out photos categories in esato under my name) and when i found out u could debrand (using far manager and xs) and add new camera drivers and audio drivers u name it this baby was it. I loved that phone. The i got the K810i, at first i was reluctant to buy it. It was ugly( what a poor fool i was), i hated it, i decried its form, and wrote it off as a k800i pt2(but not as good looking). But then after viewing the phone in various shops my mind starting changing. I started liking the damn thing. Before i knew what was what i got it on upgrade. It was a brilliant phone SE had in my opinion created 5 (k700, k750, w810, k800, k810) of the best phones ever. For their time and place they were brilliant, the best, they kicked nokia's, samsungs, motorola's, LGs proverbial backside. If their was a downside to these phones it would be in my opinion the k800 and k810 and their lack of video recording ability a'la samsung d600, d700, d800, d900 need i go on. I was really cheesed off at this omission but i forgave because the rest of the phone features were brill. And no doubt the next iteration of the K series would include this and whole lot more. I could not not wait. And then the travesty that is the K850 occurred. How could SE have got it it so wrong. This was meant to be the crown jewell in SE's portfolio. But it was more like the ever widening chink in its armour. Dont even get me started on w960( looked brill when anounced on website, but in real life just felt and looked plastic. And the features of both W and K series were shabby to say the least apart from 5 meg cam ( which was crap compared to even my k810i, I tested it with a mates k850 after we solved that crappy lil problem that was- dont put ur fingers on the back of the phone when taking pics-or theyll come out black) on K series. I felt let down by SE. here i was feeling down when suddenly i saw the beauty that is the N82. Simply put it is the best phone i have ever had. All those that take pot at Nokia( like i used to) remember this when SE was king of the hill, Nokia didnt slink away into oblivion ( i wanted it to, back in those days) it jus bade its time and came back with a hell of a comeback. Nokia started to pair their high end phones with high end features. Unlike SE who jus thought lets take this new phone but bundle it with ageing features. Come on SE, you can do better, i know, u know u can. |

I don't blame you, the K850 really was a disaster (on a large scale).
But I've got a good feeling about the C905.
Am going to buy it as soon as it's released.
PS. I'm currently using a K810i.

I know what you mean about the K700, it really was a revolution in the market at the time. It was my first and I haven't looked back since.
The K850i is acknowledged as a huge disappointment and I can understand people being tempted away by the N-series especially the all conquering N95 / N95 8GB, though N81/N82 don't appeal to me styling-wise. I also thought W960 was to be the ultimate and was surprised at how average it was.
While continue to avoid large screens, high quality video, and wifi in feature-phones, we'll continue to read stories like yours here and hopefully one day when the Xperia X1, C905, W902, W595 and others models in the same vein arrive, enthusiasts like yourself will be tempted back. I always believe one should buy the phone that suits them best regardless of make, and for me that continues to be for the foreseeable future.

I went to Nokia after years with phones. My main reason was of features. I got the N95 as I wanted a phone that could run Tomtom and had a good camera. i had a P990i before the N95 which was a good phone, ran Tomtom ok but only had an ok camera. I would have gone to the K850i with its 5MP camera but it didnt run Tomtom and the N95 I got was the same price as the K850i on my tariff and I got an 8GB memory card as well.

I don't have any severe objections about changing brand to other than SonyEricsson, but there are several practical implications if you switch brand when getting a new phone, like that all your extra equipment, like car holder/charger, extra charger, extra earphones, speakers, memory card, etc may not fit any other brand, so there is a line of further investments beside the phone that you will have to consider. I do not change phone very often, my first phone was a Samsung, which died within one year due to a weak battery connector. The next one was an Ericsson GH197, which I got at my work, a true brick in weight and size, and the battey did not even last one working day, but the reception was excellent due to the 15 cm long rubber antenna, which ewas folded to the side of the phone. Then came GH 868 and then SH888, which I used for several years. Due to it metallic chassis it was really robust and almost non-destructable, and it connected with my laptop either with a serial cable or with the IR link. Next one was the T39, which actually is the first one with Bluetooth, and it came before the T68, btw. I bought that because of it's berautiful design, its small physical dimensions, and the high-speed HSCSD built-in modem (14.8 kbps) and its GPRS capabilities. I still have it as a spare phone, and it still works, and with its original battery. High quality, no doubt. Then I got a T68i as a work phone, and used it in parallel with my T39 which I used as private phone, but I soon found out that the T68i was really crappy, very plastic and very low quality compared to the earlier version Ericsson T68. Very often, it did not recognise my SIM card due to poor contacts. I put the T68i aside and started using my T39 again for a while, until I got a Nokia 6100 as a working phone which actually was really good. For private use, I bought a K700i, and it was really great for a while, until the joystick cesed functioning. I had it fixed and used it for a while until I replaced it with the K800i which I still use. I found the K700i in a drawer a couple of weeks ago, but it does not function properly anymore. At work, the reception for GSM in our area was very poor, so the Nokia phone was replaced by a Mototola 3G phone, but that one was of very poor quality, so it was replaced by a Nokia 6233 a year ago. Besides the lower camera resolution and the lack of the Xenon flash, it is very similar to the K800 in techical terms and in size. The flash has died on my K800 btw, so that makes the two phones even more similar. Since I have had my K800i for more than 2 years by now, I'm thinking of buying a new one, but I have not yet decided what to buy. It will probably be a SonyEricsson, though. There are some new interesting models coming at the end of this year. |

k700 good ??????
think k700 had a really plastic feeling and creaky design. crappy camera and so on.
of all phones i have. k810 & w810 and now C902 is absolutley best. (now i mean, pic-quality, build quality, design).
(K800 was also very robust, but way to bulky, and K850 was great to, but bad in auto shooting)
have never understand the point with Nokias phones (i have own 3 Nokia). the only Nokia phone who looks good is N81 (and now Classic 6220), their Interface & menys are just sooo damn unlogic and ugly. (who cares that you can install 10 millions third part programs ???? who you use one time per month (or something))
i do (mostly) 4 things with my cell phones:
calling
sms/mms
camera
music/radio
sometimes i use Internet if i must check up something fast whitout my laptop.

The build quality of the K700i was much better than of the K750i. I agree that it looked a bit plastic with it's transparent buttons. But there was definitely no creaking from the battery cover as I've experienced with all SE phones I've tried since the K700i: K750i, P990i, K770i and W580i.
(The battery cover on the K700i had an inner part of metal so it wouldn't flex.)

You are very different from a lot of people. If everyone felt like you there wouldn't be any Symbian, UIQ or Windows Mobile.

And by the look of the tiny photos you keep on posting, 4.3 out of 5 megapixels are wasted. Why don't you buy a T303?

I'll have to stand by plankgatan on this one. Absolutely no one I know installs anything but games on their phones (and there are plenty of entertaining Java games out there).
