No, for mobile internet you can use either GPRS or 3G, they're two different networks.

You'll find your network bills it as GPRS even though you may be getting EDGE, 3G, HSDPA 3.6 or HSDPA 7.2Mbps speed.

GPRS is the technology behind 3G data service anyway. 3G is the speed standard USING GPRS even if it's UMTS.
