Your favourite preset equalizer |

I was thinking of posting in the tips and tricks section but I would have to make absolutely certain this is not my opinion alone. I think the "Rock" equalizer preset seems to spread across every genre quite brilliantly, contrary to popular belief that Megabass offers such versatility. In fact I find that Megabass sounds oversaturated sonically for both bass and treble, as though they're set at the wrong levels. Bear in mind I'm only referring to the equalizer settings for SE's UIQ3 phones. I find the rock preset's bass to be optimally full and the treble optimally suppressed making it suitable from hiphop/R&B to pop and raunchier stuff. I'm using the HPM-70 headset and don't feel the need for external headsets with the "Rock" preset. You can try it and share your opinion with us, what do you think is your favourite preset and why?

I also used "Rock" in my P990, delivered the most purest sond for me. ( with the HPM-70 ).
Just got the C902, the A200 platform have not "Rock" anymore ( at least the C902 hasn´t. ). Here I use manual, rock-settings
Don´t like the Mega Bass, like some bass, but its too much, and the treble is too weak for my taste.

Rock. If i could tweak it, i would lower the highs a bit, but otherwise its the one that suits me the best. Atleast on DS-970

First, I'd strongly recommend you to get a pair of decent headphones. I've used the hpm-70 myself for a while and thought that they deliver a good sound, but after switching to Sennheiser CX-300 I was astonished by how much detail, clarity and bass I was missing with the hpm-70.
It's really worth every cent I spent on it.
As for the eq settings, I usually use loudness as it seems to be the closest match to my favorite eq setting (v-curve), but I'd wish to adjust the frequencies manually, preferably with the option to save 2-3 of them.

is there any technical reason behind why there isnt any manual settings for eq? i'm sure there has to be, even K700 could do manual settings

Too bad SE dosn´t have a 3,5mm connection.
With a non SE headset you get one mile cable..

I don't think that there is any technical or os dependent limitation, as Nokia phones running the same core os have this option.
And yeah, even the K700 had manual eq and was probably the last SE phone with this option (correct me if I'm wrong).
And now ?
Even the most advanced W-series phone of 2008 doesn't have it.
@Fredricx
Would be nice if they'd add a separate 3.5 mm jack, but telling the truth, I don't care much of its absence as there is an easy and cheap solution for that.
But I do care about the absence of manual eq, since there is no workaround for it.

what do you mean? the k700 isn't the last one with manual eq.
w800/w810 even k800 and k550 have manual eq.

Yeah, that's why I said 'correct me if I'm wrong'.
And you're right.
I seem to have forgotten that a few of the non-uiq handsets have or had a manual eq setting, as it's been a while now since I've sold the last one.
But it's a shame that none of the uiq3 phones has it. |

agree with you ,i can't belive that W950/960 doesn't have manual eq either...what a shame...
i use loudness preset on my G900 ,and at low to mid volume ,megabass does the job.

I'm the type of guy who juices every ounce I can from what I have and in this case, it's just my modded P990 and my HPM-70 though I'm fully aware they're not the best combo.
@Alex_230
Yeah, used to be avid Megabass and Loundness crooner myself until I discovered Rock. Have you tried it?
@QVGA
Yes, the absence of manual eq continues to baffle. I suspect the maximum level of eq is not supported by the system since after applying mod lite I found that the audio breaks terribly at higher volumes. IMO this is where a dedicated audio chip should finish off the job SE failed to consider

I don't mind the absence of manual eq, there are enough good presets to choose from but I mostly use Pop for listening to my music through the speaker and Megabass for listening through the headset - lately I've been using the HPM-82 half the time and HPM-62 the other half (it even beats HPM-82 in some aspects).
I also applied Sound mod lite and the volume level through the headset is really amazing without any decrease in sound quality.
I don't really have much to complain about, there's one bug I noticed though:
I have about 70+ playlists in my phone (created them in Winamp on my PC and put them in my phone together with the music) and the default Music player displays all of them but shows the second half of them as empty (says no tracks in them) whereas the Walkman 3.0 reads and displays all of them correctly. I don't quite get this since W3 is a mod and the Music player is a default phone application but it's OK since I use W3 all of the time.

I am using MegaBass all the time but does anyone know about DFX decoder?
I know its not yet implemented in a mobile phone but Just give it a try using your PC and listen to your MP3s through a DFX decoder, you can have it for Winamp or WMP and to tell you it does make a huge difference to the quality of MP3 and worth of trying.
I was just wondering could it be possible to add that DFX effect to an MP3 so that you can listen to it on your phone afterwards? as I myself have not yet reached to a solution to that.
Download the trial version of DFX from http://www.fxsound.com/ |
