I own a W950i (R9GA001) and use it as a music player together with iTunes on my Mac. Due to a bug in the latest version of iTunes (7.7) I recently had it (iTunes I mean) convert the id3 tags in all songs from v2.3 to v2.4 as tags in anything other than 2.4 mess up non-English characters in the tags upon play (I know, stupid Apple).
The problem now is that the album art doesn't show up when playing the converted tracks. The mysterious thing is that they *do* appear in the album view (both the column view and the 3x3 view), but when I select a track and it begins to play I see no album art (just the grey record player icon).
Tracks transferred to the phone before the conversion to id3 v2.4 still display album art correctly in all views though so it isn't the phone that messed itself up.
How come the phone can display the artwork in one view, but not in the other and how do I fix it?
All artwork was manually added in iTunes in jpeg format with a 300x300 pixel size (I have previously had problems with larger images not showing up at all).
TIA! |

I've received answer from SonyEricsson about this and they say the W950i only supports id3v2.3 and not 2.4 and that's the end of that. (the fact that the album covers still show up in the Album view appears to be a fluke).
Since then I've tried converting the tracks back to 2.3 (from 2.4), but that doesn't work properly – at least the covers don't show up in the phone.
Apple has now released a 7.7.1 which supposedly addresses this bug, but it remains to be seen if it can convert the tracks back to 2.3 better than 7.7. I seriously doubt it though.
The only way I've found so far to fix the tracks is to tell iTunes to remove the ID3 tag altogether and then choose to convert it to 2.3. This however makes it lose the album art and also the fields for number of tracks on the album and number of discs. Restoring this manually for ~7500 tracks feels somewhat tedious however. Thanks Apple! |
