How to convert video to 3GP for your mobile phone? |

Sothink Video Converter is a powerful video converter for creating 3GP video. This 3GP Converter can convert all popular formats of video to 3GP video. It provides faster conversion speed and better 3GP video quality than other 3GP converters.
Step 1 Load and Edit Source Video
Click "Add" to add source video file. You can add different formats of video to the conversion list.
Select a file and click "Remove" to remove the files from conversion list.
Select a file and click "Move Up" and "Move Down" to change the conversion order.
Select a file and click "Play" to activate a player to preview the video.
Select a file and click "Crop & Trim" to crop and trim the video.
Crop and Trim
Crop
* Left & Top
The left-top point on picture is considered as origin. Give Left and Top value to define the position of cropping area.
* Width & Height
Give Width and Height value to define the cropping area.
* Aspect Ratio
Custom/4:3/16:9/2.35:1/1.85:1
* Mouse Action
You can drag the red rectangle outline (when the cursor is an arrow) to select the area you want to be converted.
You can also define an area by giving Width and Height, and then move red rectangle outline to any position (when the cursor is a cross arrow).
Trim
On this panel you can see the "Duration", "Start time", "End time", and the navigated time at the side of navigation slider.
You can move the sliders on the trim bar to trim the video. But please note that the trimmed video clip should be longer than 1 second.
* Start time slider - Drag it to set start time.
* End time slider - Drag it to set end time.
* Navigation slider - Drag it to navigate the source video.
You can use keyboard to control the position of slider.
* Left/Right - go back/forth 0.001s each time
* Page Up/Page Down - go back/forth 1s each time
* Up/Down - switch to the slider you want to move
Step 2 Specify the Settings
Output Directory
Select a path that you want to save the created 3GPP/3GPP2 files. Each output file will be automatically named by the program.
For example, if the given name is superman.wmv, then the created files will be named as superman.3gp (or superman.3g2).
File Format
* 3GPP/3GPP2
There are two formats of 3G video file: 3GPP and 3GPP2. 3GPP uses ".3gp" as file extension, and 3GPP2 uses ".3g2". Generally, you can select 3GPP as the output format to avoid compatibility problems.
Audio Settings
Specify the audio and video settings for the conversion.
* Audio format
AMR-NB - This is the most compatible audio encoding format, and it can be supported by all mobile phones. AMR-NB formatted audio has lower requirements for mobile hardware. But its quality is not satisfying. The sample rate is fixed to 8K Hz, the audio bit rate can not be higher than 12.2K bps, and stereo (2 channels) is not supported.
AAC-LC - AAC-LC formatted audio has better quality, as you can choose higher sample rate, bit rate, and stereo channel. But some mobiles of former types might not support this format. You can check the manual of your mobile to see if it supports AAC-LC encoded audio.
Please set the Audio format, and the relating sample rate, bit rate, channel according to your mobile's capability.
* Gain
Gain: You can adjust the audio volume by dragging the gain slider. The range is from -5.0 to 30.0db. Please note that if the gain is too high, the audio may get distortion.
Video Settings
* [Dimension]:
There are 3 different dimensions available - 128 x 96, 176 x 144 and 352 x 288. Please make sure the dimension does not exceed the resolution limit of your mobile when setting it. For example, the resolution of Nokia 2855 is 160 x 128, so you can only select 128 x 96. The resolution of Sony Ericsson W810C is 176 x 220, thus you can choose 128 x 96 or 176 x 144. Certainly, you'd better choose 176 x 144 for better quality.
* [Bit rate]:
Choose higher bit rate to get better video quality. Some mobiles may not support high bit rate videos or would have unsynchronization problem during playback, so please set the bit rate carefully.
* [Frame rate]:
Most of the mobiles support 15fps video playback. Some high-end mobile phones even support 30fps video playback. However, You can select "Do not change" to let Sothink 3GP Video Converter keep the frame rate of the original video to get the best video quality.
* [Zoom Mode]:
LetterBox/Pan&Scan/Stretch
Zoom Mode
LetterBox - If you adopt LetterBox mode, the picture will be shrunk to fit the target dimension while preserving the aspect ratio of source video, and black bars will be added to fill the gaps.
Pan & Scan - Only parts of the source video would be converted with Pan & Scan mode. The program will cut out some detail around the picture, which is not considered that important, to make the width or height fit.
Stretch - With Stretch mode, the whole video will be recorded at full dimension for preserving all the fine details, but the picture will lost the original aspect ratio and be literally squashed out of shape.
Conversion Process
Status
During the conversion process, the program will show the detailed conversion status, including:
* Current file - path and name of the file being converted.
* Estimated overall time - the estimated time that the whole conversion would take.
* Elapsed time
* Time Left
* Overall progress - the progress of the whole conversion.
Post-processing Options
And the operations you can choose to let the program do after the conversion:
"Play a sound when conversion is finished" - Let the program tell you that the conversion is done by playing a sound.
"Shut down the computer when all tasks are finished" - Let the program automatically shut down your computer when all conversion tasks are done.
Conversion Result
When the conversion is finished, you can transfer to mobile phone or your ipod, the program would automatically load the created videos to your iTunes Library, if you have selected "Load the created files to iPod" in the previous step.
And the program would give a result summary, which shows the number of total source files, successfully converted files, and failed files. Click "Open Folder" to open the folder where converted videos are saved.
Click "Finish" to back to beginning panel.
Click "Exit" to exit the program.

Thanks, but I want the opposite, convert the 3gp (or mp4) videos I record with my phone to mpeg or vob so I can watch them on my home dvd player. |

 Yes, more and more similar tools can do that, but I like its crop and trim function, you also can go to google searh "video converter" for get more...

or you can use ACALA 3GP FREE if you want to do all this automatically . |

sorry for reply to you later, you also can use a video converter to convert 3gp to mpeg, mp4 to mpeg, they convert between most of video formats
