As someone who has lost a lot of weight since December, thought I would ask some of you a few questions.
Quick cap about me, I was around waist 38, I am 5ft 6"....Don't know how much I weighed in December as I didn't get scales untill March time, so In March time I weighed around 74KG.
That put my BMI at 25.5 - 26.0
An ideam BMI is between 19-25 really.
A BMI score of less than 18.5 could mean that your BMI is lower than what is considered healthy.
A BMI score between 18.5 and 29.9 is considered to be in the normal BMI category.
A BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered as an overweight BMI score.
A BMI score over 30 is considered to be in the category of obesity
Now conisder I weighed that much after already dieting for 3 months.
I decided that after 3 months, I wasn't going to waste my effort, so I kept at it, eat healthy, no take aways (deff no kebabs lol), walk the dog 4 times a day at 40mins each time, walk to places rather then drive, and in April I started running every night for around 4-5 miles (depending on how much I've eaten that day and decide to burn off).
Now my waist size is 32" (All my trousers are way too big), down from 38".
I weigh 58KG (down from around 75KG).
My BMI is around 20.5 - 21.0 which is good, 18 is considered the low end of too skinny and 25.0 is considered the high end of healthy before being fat, so I'm just above the 18 which means I'm a good weight for my height.
So went from being maybe on the edge of becoming obese to getting it under control and doing something about it.
I kept seeing fat people on TV and I'd always think "they should eat better and exercise", I never considered myself fat, though I got called it often, even just for a joke etc I was still the fat kid. And after years of having the piss take, I decided I was going to do something about it.
Christmas time my Aunt bought me a shirt that was Small in size (god knows why she bought me a small, wishful thinking maybe lol)... Obviously my belly and man boobs just stuck out and it looked stupid, even my mum said it was way to small. So I decided that I liked the shirt, and rather then buying a new one, I'd fit in to it....now I wear it out whenever and it's baggy on me, result
So to anyone planning to lose weight or wanting to, give it time, and commitment and you can do it. You don't have to go hardcore like I did...I ate nothing but 2 bowls of cerial a day and a smoothies for over a month (which really isn't too healthy in the log run).....Just take it slow and day by day, don't snack unless you have to (and if you do, have a carrot or something...not a donut or crisps).
Once you lose the weight that's the best bit, because you still eat healthy every day,...but you can have that odd snack in the evening to kill the urge, just go for a run to work it off.
You get to a point where you've worked so hard, that you refuse to just give up, so you keep going, if you need any advice, just ask, I'll try and offer some of my experience as advice.
On a down side, I miss enjoying food...Everything i eat I check the calories, and I haven't had bread/toast or crisps in months, I miss them lol.
Just out of general interest, how many people here class themselves as overweight?
Have you ever tried to lose the weight?
How do you feel about the weight, maybe your big and couldn't care less (Then good for you!).
Also, what exercise do you do?

That sounds like one awesome effort ÈL ® ö B ì Ñ! Congratulations for losing so much weight.
I am not overweight or fat, and I never have been. I swear, I can eat anything I want and I still don't gain weight or get fat. I eat more than people who are larger than me too... I guess I'm pretty lucky with that. I also play football twice weekly to keep fit.
I used to wear a quite baggy shirt to work, and I guess people thought I was a little bit chunky underneath cause it was big, but then we updated to new shirts and I finally got my proper size. People said to me, "Whoa, have you lost heaps of weight?!" Then I'd say "No, I've always been this thin". They were quite surprised lol.
My girlfriend tells me I'm too thin sometimes too. I wouldn't say I'm too thin. Just right.

Lucky lol, wish I could eat loads and keep it off but I don't.
I *kinda* do now that i've speeded up my metabolism...my stomach bulges out after I eat but backs down after a few hours and doesn't seem to keep any of the weight which is nice....But more then likely because I do a lot of walking and running.
Never thought I'd see the day when my mum would turn round and say put on weight you look too thin lmao, never bloody happy eh.
Wish I could run tonight but my knee's hurt

Good stuff, well done! You've done really well because you haven't resorted to one of those faddy diets, its all been down to exercise and self-control on your part and that really is brilliant mate, you've done it the proper way.
There is no reason why you should stop enjoying your food though. Look at other food options, things that you wouldn't have considered before.

I'm 13 I thought that was normal
Today someone and myself were arguing about height, we ended up standing back to back and someone said I have boobs (my ribs stick out :/ ) and I ended up getting accused of having a six pack

Thanks Golden face
Lol I know what you mean, people have different size chests...my chest sticks out further and a bit wider then my stomach, big chests just make you more manly lol
Having people think you have a six pack can't be bad

I was always the fat kid, still am now
Been there, gained alot of weight, lost loads of it, put a good 75% of it back on again and that's where I am now.
And you know what the important thing is? I'm happy. I'm happy with how I look and feel, and I really would only ever lose weight now if my health commanded it, not because I want to look any different.
I'm 6ft, aged 22 and around the 19.5 stone mark I believe from a few weeks back.

Although saying that I've finished my gcse's and gave up my paper round 5 months ago so I've put on abit of weight since then!
Still, now I have time on my hands after I get back from my hols gonna start running again
I eat loads of junk but have stopped eating as much recently because for some reason I have found a love for special k and I just snack on that instead !

Ye that's great, if your happy with how you are then there's no need to change at all, unless like you say for health reasons.
I done it because I really wanted to see what I'd look like not fat lol, and what's odd is looking at some pictures, I don't even look fat and I didn't feel fat, but my cloth sizes and *friends* begged to differ.
i've started getting into doing quite a bit of exercise and weight lifting etc, but i was wondering if you could give me a guide of what, and how much i should be eating and drinking!

I forgot to mention I also do weights, well...I have a set of dumbbells lol, I find what's best is to 1 night run, next night weights, next night run etc etc.
Alternate it between the two to give the muscles time to rest.
At one point for about a month I was doing both every night, and my arms always ached and my knee's always hurt and it made walking anywhere very painful and it's just not worth it.
Obviously if you can avoid it, no fizzy drinks, infact and you know this anyway the best drink is water.
Things like fresh Orange juice is good too in moderation (200ml of tropicana fresh orange with bit's is 86 calories)...so be careful what you drink, as like me you'd probably prefer to eat your calories and not drink them.
You can actually lose weight purely by drinking lots of water, a lot of them time people have water retention because they don't drink enough water, so their body holds on to it, so it's not fat, it's water retention...but on the outside it looks like fat.
The best way to get rid of it is to show your body it doesn't need to retain water, so drink lots of it.
Another way to lose weight by eating the same food that you do now is to spread it out to 5 meals, rather then 2-3 big ones.
Your body learns that it has a constant supply of food so your metabolism will speed up and also your digestive system will improve as it's not trying to digest 3 big heavy meals...but 5 smaller meals spread out.
And NEVER let yourself get hungry, because you'll only slow your metabolism down which will again burn food slowly which means you'll start to gain the weight back.
But with 5 meals spread out, you shouldn't feel hungry...and it also cuts out snacks.
Also what you eat makes a big difference, for example earlier I was hungry so I had a look in the cupboard and fridge, I had the choice between a yoghurt which was 102 calories and a rocky bar which was 102 calories...both the same, however which once will keep you feeling fuller for longer...the yoghurt. Chocolate will give you a quick fill and a quick sugar burst, but you'll also feel the hunger and crash quicker and leave you craving for something sweet.
I skip breakfast (I know, most important one of the day, better for weight loss etc) but I don't get up till around 10, and I don't feel hungry till 11.30, so at 11.30-12pm I have a big bowl of Jordans Museli (very nice try it), it has raison's, nuts and oats in it and no added sugar...Unlike crappy alpen (eugh). Museli is very good for the digestive system, releases energy slowly, little fat and fills you up for hours.
Try to stay away from things with stupid amounts of calories, for example I have a curry pot noodle, and it has around 374 calories in it, for around the same amount of calories you could have a bowl of museli (inc semi-skimmed milk) which IMO is alot nicer, takes me longer to eat (which is good as I like to eat) and makes me feel full and keeps me full for hours.
Where as the pot noodle will fill me, but make me feel bloated, not full...and doesn't last half as long, you will feel hungry quicker, causing you to eat more.
So ye, just watch the calorie input, to lose weight quickly, limit yourself to 2000 calories (2500 recommended for men daily), and do your weights as you'll be burning calories and also try to walk for 1h a day...and if your bored at 11pm, don't watch TV, go for a quick 10min run or fast walk, every little counts.
Also, protein helps build muscle, eat lots of chicken (I bought myself a george foreman fat reducing grill just for this lmao).
Btw that's all from personal experience and advice I read on the net, it could be wrong, but thought I'd still offer my 2pence worth.
but it upsets me when I get called a stick like I do when around town on my own.. im a size 10 a few years ago I was a 8 and had bones visible
now im a 10 everythings much better
I 100% agree, I see girls down the park who are really thin...and they'll have a friend who isn't fat...but looks healthy compared, and I prefer them deff. The look of bones isn't attractive at all. I find models etc too skinny most of the time, god knows why some of them want to be size 0...Just looks revolting.
the best excesise is to keep busy I think,
esp now im working as a volunteer I actually love it and oneday it will give me better job I dream off
Good on ya!
I agree keeping busy is good, however when you use the internet to look for work...shop...have fun...and you like to watch films and play games and lets face it I have 0 friends....it's hard to get out and do stuff which is why I walk the dog 4 times a day and go for a run before bed (Infact I'll be going for a short run after this post), running before bed is brilliant, I used to lie there for up to an hour most nights trying to get to sleep because I'd watch a film and eat throughout the whole thing...then try and sleep and just couldn't. But now because I'm warn out I can fall asleep within 4mins, brilliant
im happy with my weight, but need to tone up so will be taking up boxing (like a good number of friends) begining of next month when i start my new job!
Nice one mate, wish I had the guts to take up something like boxing, I've thought about a martial art....But just would never have the guts to go and do it...shame really.
