Hello to everybody!
i think this is going to be my first post  . The reason for this is the following. I think i`m about to buy a 2 gb memory stick micro for my cellphone. I would prefer a 4gb one but i donīt want to spend that money in a memory (at least for now). The problem is that i think that the music I have is more than 2 gb (something like 2,6 gb) , and i will have to use another music format. I read about a format of music called eAAC+. A normal file in this format is about 1 mb. I would like that someone who used this could tell me some things:
What about the sound quality ?
Which program did you use to convert it to eAAC+ ?
If its bad, which format (not too big and good quality) did you recommend to use instead eAAC+ ?

i use eAAC+ and sound quality is very good for mobile listening, as far as i'm concerned. i encode at 96 kbps (variable bitrate).
as an example, the same song in mp3 format at 192 kbps is 8.8 MB, while in eAAC+ at 96 kbps is 4.3 MB. if you encode at 64 kbps, then you will get roughly 30% the file size of the mp3 format, but of course, a higher bitrate gives you better clarity. just experiment and see how you like it.
i use an 8GB M2 and have about 2400 songs using up 4.3 GB. i use M3 to encode my music, which is a discontinued app which you can get for free. just do a search for it here at esato.

I encode my tracks in 96 kbps eAAC+ by Sony Ericsson Media Manager. The software is included in the sales package of some A200 phones (K850 and later ones). You also can download it from Sony Ericsson Support Page.
from my observations, sometimes it's better off not knowing. |

AAC codec work great on  phones... And also Media Coder is great all in one converter too

does any know whether say 64kb mp3 or 64kb aac is better? i've always wondered.

64 AAC would be better in my opinion...
64MP3 sound very bad...

well i use lame encoder for my mp3 set at 64kb variable and apparently they only take out the background noises that human ears cant really hear anyway, and variable bits reads at ~114kb or at least the comp says anyway. but if ppl think aac would sound better i'll change my entire library.

ps my media manage 1.0 freezes every time i tell it to convert mp3 to aac format, it works fine with changing bit rate of mp3 files. Help?

first of all, use eAAC+ and not just regular AAC to get the best sound quality. having said that, a 64kbps eAAC+ file usually sounds as good as, if not better than a 128 kbps mp3 file.
i remember reading a review which came out saying that eAAC+ had the best sound quality for compressed music, especially when using the Nero codec. i suggest you do a search here on esato for M3 then do some experimenting and see how you like the results. |

Whops, when i converted my mp3 files to AAC or eAAC+ my album art tag is disappearing. Shot! i think ill stick to mp3 yet!

well i converted some tracks with dBpoweramp Music Converter ( + plugins that allowed to convert to m4a). I tried the 3 options of bit rate ( VBR, CBR, ABR) but i dont know which one is the best. I used VBR and ABR at different bit rates but im not sure how to get the best result.
However, i tried different combinations and when i play them in the loudspeaker it doesnt sound good. Furthermore, there is a strange sound in the background, when you stop the music this noise continues until you exit walkman player :S . Has someone had this problems before?
The sound quality wasnīt very good ( i hope its me with my bad configuration ). I need some help here |
