Hi,

I have a W850i and above the signal bars in the top left corner of the screen there is a blue block which is permanently visible, (see picture). I believe this is indicating GPRS.

Does this just indicate presence of the GPRS network, or that i am connected to it and sending data?

My friend has the same phone and his only appears when on the internet.

How do i turn it off on my phone, it's draining the battery and i didn't request it.

Thanks

I believe that that indicates that you have the service and network coverage of GPRS

if you start transferring any data you get a little globe icon next to it

that's how I understand it

The upper scale indicator is GPRS... If it glows vivid blue you have GPRS coverage... If it is light blue there is GPRS coverage available by the network but you are not using it... Anyway there are some other signals that may appear:

G letter - GPRS
E letter - EDGE
H letter - HSDPA

but these appear only if your phone and network supports them at the same time.
