W850i GPRS connection?

jimp85 Joined: Jul 06, 2008 Posts: 1 PM	Posted: 2008-07-06 14:16 Hi, I have a W850i and above the signal bars in the top left corner of the screen there is a blue block which is permanently visible, (see picture). I believe this is indicating GPRS. Does this just indicate presence of the GPRS network, or that i am connected to it and sending data? My friend has the same phone and his only appears when on the internet. How do i turn it off on my phone, it's draining the battery and i didn't request it. Thanks

Thanks I believe that that indicates that you have the service and network coverage of GPRS if you start transferring any data you get a little globe icon next to it that's how I understand it

If it is light blue there is GPRS coverage available by the network but you are not using it... Anyway there are some other signals that may appear: G letter - GPRS E letter - EDGE H letter - HSDPA but these appear only if your phone and network supports them at the same time.
