Yes this conversion is possible and you wont have any problems imo (if you flash it correctly). You only need K818 firmware files and custpack (you can use K800 custpack from XS++ too ).

You will get features like: trackID, photo fix, slightly updated java engine and etc...

See my flashing tutorial to get it done:

Well there is another thing tha bothers me...

The K790 network frequentions are GSM 900/1800/1900 while the K818 ones are GSM 850/1800/1900 I think...

It should work fine with higher frequentions networks, but on GSM900 ones it can lead to low or NO network reception problems... So beware.

This isn't true, firmwares don't affect the frequencies, frequencies are stored in the GDFS

Yes may be.

I know I had flashed my K790 to K810i firmware and I know what had happened.

"No Network Coverage"

was being flashed at the to of the screen where you have the operator logo.

And moreover I think K790 is better than K818. Coz there are many patches for this baby and also have elf support.
I have downloaded the K818 R8 firmwares and main files but I dont want to take the risk of getting it flashed to "No Network Coverage" again.
Currently my this K790 is in a good state as I want it (has lots of patches-both main and GFX patches installed).

So say by to K818

It's not only for Asia... It is a non-3G version, and EDGE version of the K810 which can be used in countries where 3G is not available...

If its a non 3g then it should surely work on the k790i cos that too is a non 3g. Actually a non 3g version of k800.

Yeah but someone says that it has different frequentions... So giving a try is the only solution imo...
