Just want to ask, why is esato in the dark ages in terms of the board
It just seems no fun anymore to be on here, like i go on other forums for my bike and theres people full on slagging the shite out of each other and theres a real sense of community
and here you get asked to put a asterix or whatever if you swear or cant post anything that might be deemed offencive or it gets removed etc
For example last year i posted a thread about a man who got in court for shagging a bike - what was wrong with that. Would've made a good few people laugh and if people weren't going to like it then why would they click it. Needless to say it was deleted within about 2 minutes.
I just feel these boards are well to strict, and formal. I know this board isn't like the streamlined phpBB and Invision boards for security reasons amongst others but wheres the fun in having a mobile phone that you dont own in your avatar or not being able to have a pic or colour in your sig? Most people have more than a 28k line these days (Y)
As far as im concered theres only one section of the forum worth visiting and thats the non mobile discussion. Fair enough its a mobile forum etc etc but its the community most come here daily.
In conclusion i just feel the forum has lost all of its appeal to recurring members and seems to have lost the community feel. To me anyway
Slate me or agree - just reply
Im not fussed about phones/gadgets no more. If im online im in the Non-Mobile discussion |

No offense, but if there was a real problem here, and if others had the same problem, I don't think Esato would have so many regular users who come back here everyday.
I don't know what you mean about the community thing, because for me Esato has the best community of any other forum I visit.
I don't mind that you have your viewpoint, I'm just saying mine.

i like it this way.. please never change..!!
one should improve it.. not change..it..!! its been years i have been surfing esato.com and i have only used sony ericsson cell phones and the day i got my first cell phone i was aware about esato.com .. its been like 6 years now i guess.. just love..it..
the main reason behind this old age forum is its fast and easy.. !! new age has good designs no doubt but lil slow man its like a cell phone the P900/P910 was way better than P1i/P990 cause it was really fast !!!
the day i bought p990i my intrest from cell phones got over cause at that time i saw many nokia cell phones getting virus and hangs and p990i damn it was really slow but then later the firmware made it easy.. but still compare with p900/p910... p990 is BS !!!
anyways i don't really complaint.. there are other factors to be seen and lets wait for xperia i'm sure it wont be as fast as p900/p910 but those were the days man.. |

what about the users who log on via gprs etc?
i can see why images in sigs have been disabled as some members may put big, distracting ones and eat up bandwidth for those on a limited connection and it takes longer for the page to load

I agree with this.

I don't really see how "slagging the shite out of each other" helps to create a "real sense of community" - tbh, for a phone forum Esato probably has a much better sense of community than most, if only because its members are expected to behave a little better.
We all like a good slanging match and Esato has plenty of those - they just happen to a bit more polite, usually, which is a good thing. You get a proper debate here, rather than the quick descent into personal insults that some forums suffer from.
At the end of the day, I've been here for about seven years on and off, and it's not really changed a great deal - still just as popular, still the number one SE site (despite plenty more competition), so if it ain't broke? Maybe it's just not for you.

I think the content allowed of the non mob discussion could be relaxed a little.
Not to the point where we all start posting porn, but real news stories like the one you mentioned and like the one I remember posting about the Austrian man who nail-gunned his testicle into his roof. It's a good laugh to read but it was deemed inappropriate.
Is there no chance you can add a feature that allows users can mark certain articles as inappropriate for general view, so that only logged in users can view the thread?

I think one of the biggest problems is that Esato does quite well on Google and so if somebody posts a story that is currently a popular search term, Esato will get tons of extra hits.
Is that good? Well, yes. If they're also into mobile phones or like clicking on adverts, that is.
But unfortunately, not many "casual" visitors are into those things and so will just be adding to bandwidth without contributing anything to the site.

To be honest, I've been on enough phone forums in the past to get pissed off pretty quickly because of childish attitudes, and this forum has kept me going for so long because of the level of maturity, despite the fact alot of members are still 'kids' themselves but they too manage to write in a mature level.
I think too many forums have spam jokes and pictures and childish 'slagging' each other off, the latter of which really annoys me because theres simply no need for it. We're here to talk, not to have a slagging match.
If you want that, and for some bizarre reason you enjoy it, then please go somewhere else and do it.
My opinions on this forum are that of my own and not of the company I work for. |

Exactly. Once you get used to it over on the "dark side" Esato seems too "tame". I'm not saying I'll leave, this is the first ever forum that I've properly been part of!

I just miss those heated political discussions we used to have some years ago..i always thought it was a good change from constant mobile related arguments.
But since last year even those have been restricted..i tried to start one or two but got deleted before i could blink..
And about that guy going to court for shagging his bike..man it was hilarious..even i posted it..same result as you danny..
But i'm okay if a forum doesn't want to endorse such talk...but politics..whats the problem there??

esato is fine the way it is.
esato is the only forum that is primarily focused around 1 manufacturer which makes being on esato a breeze.

Esato was primarily designed to help people and inform them about their phones, phones they are looking to buy or new phones which are currently rumoured. It works perfectly. Esato isn't here for so much larking about. Its a very informative forum. thats what makes it so plesant. =)
