Upgrade time, what to get after the P1i? |

I've enjoyed my 12 months with the P1i but now it's time for a new handset. Trouble is, what's out there right now? I want something with:
a) Great build quality
b) A top camera
c) A good web browser
I'm not necessarily bothered if it's not a smartphone but I can't find anything out there that satisfies my requirements!
The contenders:
SE C902 - decent build quality but shocking camera
Nokia N95 8GB - good features overall but let down by shoddy build
Nokia 6220 Classic - again good features but poor build.
So what else is out there? I've researched for hours but can't find anything! |

how about the new G900 it shows some pretty nice upgrades, 5mp camera, wifi b/g, new uiq interface.
In my case, i have the w960, i don't if there is a significant upgrade to consider changin.

N82 is a good option but IMO it looks kinda cheap.
N78 is the same thing but the keypad is really weird.
G900 makes sense but now after nokia buying symbian im not too sure on anything UIQ.
if u can settle for a 3mp camera Nokia E66 and E71 are great phones. |

I think the N82 would be good for you.
Or perhaps the Samsung i900 Omnia?
Smartphone, big screen and this nice webbrowser, appearantly very good camera and decent build. Only thing is that it's not out yet but think it will be in august or september...
(Doubting between the Samsung i900 omnia, HTC Touch Pro and SE Xperia X1 myself, although I don't think the latter is a serious option because of release/price) |

Blackberry Curve.
i am going to wait to see if SE improve their act on building a phone that can for once represent quality and of value. so far... none of the devices have honored that.
They also need to add 3g Support for american markets. People dont rely on GPRS here anymore, i dont know if SONY has received a memo on that and if they would like to increase their market share and/or portfolio against their competitors.
right now.. anything else but Sony symbian device.
although i am proud to say, i love m600i AFTER some several modifications. wish it atleast had edge network support or else i wouldnt be switching to a blackberry today.
goodluck on your purchase |

Too bad it doesn't have a keyboard though.... |

But it does have handwriting recognition ..... it worked brill for me on SE devices so hopefully it will be similar on the Omnia. I never ever used the keyboards on the P910i, P990i or P1i.

Anything with a WORKING WLAN. Preferably P1i with a WLAN fix. |

SE's wlan implementation will never work properly without being completely replaced.
Funny none of the problems exist on Nokia units or the iphone!

There is no Sony Ericsson replacement for the P1, sadly. The G900 is nothing but the same old platform in a downgraded, lower tier form factor. The X1 isn't ready, isn't a like for like replacement anyway, and has plenty of competition from very similar devices.
If you want a good smartphone, look at HTC. If you want a good Symbian smartphone, look at Nokia - but only if you can live without the touchscreen.
