My other half wants this phone but I have read on the net that the keys suffer from cracking? Is this still the case with newer versions of the phone? Its a white one on o2 payg.

Cheers!

Nah mate it has been fixed. Long ago actually. You'll find most of the cracked key complaints stem from when the phone had just hit the market.

this issue was with phones produced prior to week 34 of last year.

Actually the cracking keypad problem is still present in the S500 and also the W580. Had too many of these now even a 1 week old model i bought ended up with cracked keys. They crack because the keypad is raised and rocks in the middle. This puts pressure on the buttons causing them to eventually split.

Basically. When the problem was first reported.SE stated that it was due to the paint used and they had rectified the problem. This was just their way of getting out of a recall IMO. It doesn't matter what colour you buy. You will eventually end up with cracked keypad syndrome. Shame really as they are a really nice phone. Especially the contrasted copper S500.

I got a w580 for christmas and the buttons cracked, but it was just a case of bringing it round to the carphone warehouse and they replaced the buttons because the phone was still under warranty and SE knew about the problem

I said before SE should have taken these off the market. I had one returned same day. Not only was i worried the keys would crack as they felt fragile i thought the call quality was dreadful on the W580i. Very muffled.
