I'm a new Symbian/UIQ user, as of last night, having gone through a selection of Ericsson and Sony Ericsson phones many years ago - and I'm quite happy to see that Esato is still here waiting for me
I'm coming over (back) from using a PalmOS Treo for a couple of years, and there are a few things I need my phone to do - one of which is work as an ebook reader. It seems that the Mobipocket Reader software is the state of the art when it comes to UIQ3 reading software, and that's fine, but I'm one of those contrarian Linux fellows who doesn't use Windows, doesn't use DRM and doesn't use proprietary formats when he can avoid it.
Which is a long-winded way of saying that I'd like to get mobipocket reader to open HTML and text files, without having to run them through a one-way converter first. From lost of reading around online today, it looks like it should just work, but it doesn't. Does anyone have this working, who can treat me like a stupid person getting to know a new platform, and tell me exactly what to do?
For what it's worth, I like the G900, but I don't love it - yet? The first one the store gave me apparently had a faulty screen, and the second one 'developed' an OS problem about 12 hours after leaving the store which left chunks of the UI simply not responding. It's obviously a lot thinner/lighter than the Treo, and with an unbelievably better camera, and I need to wait to see how long the battery lasts with things like wifi and A2DP going on. It does also seem that the UIQ3 software world is even less lively than the PalmOS one - but with a pretty high quantity/quality ratio... |
