It had nowt to do with the Beeb!
The thunderstorms in Vienna were causing power outages which affected global transmissions.
And the BBC provided BBC1 with commentary from Five Live while there was no pictures.

EDIT: And how exactly have you gone about paying for BBCHD?

Not the BBC's fault. Even if ITV had shown the game live, same problems would have happened...
This whole phenomena is a mystery, wrapped in an enigma, wrapped in a government agenda.

S'pose so, but still, you had BBC1....... Five Live was instant on the second outage.
And the BBC did do all they could, so I can't see any reason for complaining.

I was watching that game you could see lightning behind Gary Lineker. And no definately not the BBCs fault storms cause these things its nature they had no control over it. It went off my my freeview box too. Great game though.

this was reported on major networks right after it happened.. apparently, a power outage caused the incident and the bad weather during the game was blamed for it - well, at least there's a "scientific" (read: explainable ) reason behind it.. hope it doesn't happen on the finals though..

meanwhile, germany waits for the other finalist... spain (?)
