k800: Music Player: Song sort order seems random :( |
purplegreend Joined: Jun 14, 2008 Posts: 13 PM |
In file manager when I go
All Files > Music > {Artist} > {Album} >
The tracks are all in order.
However in music player when I go:
{Artist} > {Album} >
They're in random order: They're not done by alphabet, size, length - anything as far as I can see!
Is there a way to fix this?
Is it just the way I transfered them? (I simply let the computer recognise it as mass storage, rebooted then used explorer to copy & paste from my external HD onto the M2 Micro)
If so, how should I have done it?

Hey,
The music files in file manager are in alphabetical order, but this doesnt mean itll show up in the media player the same way.
The media player sorts songs by (song) Title, so you'll have to edit the tags on your PC, this can be done easily with media player, just open the specific file(s), rightclick on it and change the Title (you can also add album art, album name, blabla)
First of all, right click the file > Advanced tag editor
After that, fill in the tags (everyone you put in Title will show up in alphabetical order in your k800's media player)
If you're not a Windows Media Player fan, or if you have a older version, you can also try this program named MP3Tag:
http://www.mp3tag.de/en/
A very easy-to-use program, less then 10MB and does the same as WMP..
Btw, there is nothing with the way you've transferring it.

Are you sure!?
They don't seem to be alphabetical, for eg: (Numbers in brackets are the real order)
Biffy Clyro: Puzzle
Love has a diameter (9)
Semi Mental - 4/15ths (8)
Living is a problem because everything dies (1)
Saturday Superhouse (2)
Who's got a match (3)
As dust dances (4)
A whole child ago (5)
The conversation is (6)
Now I'm everyone (7)
Get f**ked stud (10)
Folding stars (11)
9/15ths (12)
Machines (13)
Drop it (14)
You see, it's not alpahabetical so I dunno if it'll work
They show up properly in WMP (9series) & MediaMonkey (2.5), so I think the tags are ok?

Delete the files stored in ur stick and put the 'new' ones in.. |

OK, I just wanted to make sure before I went to all the trouble.
I'll give it a go now and see what happens.
Just to confirm; the song number needs to be in the song name, not just the filepath right? |

Well I let Winamp's "auto tagger" to sort the tags of my songs... Then I put the to phone, create a playlist for example with all of the songs, then go MORE/SORT BY/ARTIST

And yeah, shuffle can be also causing "problems" like this.

Well I tried it (the retagging) and, much to my surprise [/sarcasm], it didn't work!
However I did notice a trend in the order; they all go:
9, 8, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10.....
Only 9 and 8 are messsed up.
The songs are not on random: It's the order that they appear in the menus as well as playback that's affected.
Anyone else care to try sorting me out?
It's really annoying for the albums where continuity is a factor, "Dark Side Of The Moon" and any live albums for example. |

OK try this...
- Remove all tags from the songs...
- Name them like this:
1 - artist - song
2 - artist - song
3 - artist - song
- put them in one folder (My Music for e.g.)...
- create new playlist in media player and add all them at one time...
- press more/sort by/name
and see if this works for your...
P.S. Make sure you have shuffle disabled.

^That's not a solution - there's over 800 songs!
The tags work fine on anything else, media player media monkey, dad's nokia, mum's iPod nano (1st g) and bro's creative Zen. It IS the phone - I know it!
A few albums actualy are in the right order, so I'm gonna see if they have different tags... Otherwise I'll just re-transfer and hope for the best |

Music player for k800 is capable of sorting tracks by their number. But on two conditions:
a)Tracks should have tags with the track number in it. Player is incapable of sorting tracks by the file name and it does not seem to be using creation date or, say, file size. So, if there are no tags, than only Satan himself knows how it's sorted.
b)There should be no zeros before the track numbers in the tags. Many people put them there and then use tags for creating file names, but when music player reads those tags it sorts the tracks in the way shown in this topic(9, 8, 1-2-3-e.t.c.). Don't ask me why, but it just does it.
Hope it helps.

When i used a k750i with w800i firmware, I noticed that the media player would play the songs in the order that they were created (copied) on the phone. I noticed that after copying an album downloaded from a torrent... With torrents, files are always downloaded in a random order and, when copying them on the phone, windows would copy them in the order they were created on the hard disk.
I hope you understand what I'm trying to say... Check this in your phone's storage. Try ordering the files by their creation date in windows explorer and see if that matches with the playing order. This was always the case on my k750i and it still is on my current p1i, unless I select the "Smart" ordering option in walkman player 3.

Its the same on my K800i. Though its in wrong order in music player not files. I just go into individual artist name and play from there. |
