Today i went and bought a 3UK usb modem. Set it up and it connected fine. Then on screen it said ANTI VIRUS CHECK but i clicked on DONT SEND. I dont have anti virus on pc but anyway its completely crashed my pc. Now all i get is my desktop wallpaper with no icons and when i switch it on it just says file corrupted please re install but i cant it just does nothing. The modem is ok still picking up a signal its just the pc is dead. Its a very old pc. Please help if anyone knows whats to do.

How old is this old PC of yours?

If it's running XP service pack 1 or below then that could easily cause problems, regardless of what the minimum specs for the card might say.

Also, what does the "virus scan" message look like? Is it clearly from the modem manufacturer's software or maybe a well-known antivirus company like Norton or Mcafee? Or is it from somebody you've never heard of?

Because one possibility is that you might have had a virus / malware app on there already and it's been lying dormant until you connected to the internet which sprung it into life?
