I want a camera.
I want a phone.

I'd be happy with a camera phone, but I need something that is quick to react to me asking it to take a photo - I want something quick.

The K8xx series seems slow. How do others fair? Do I have to buy a separate digital camera?

A DSLR will give you the speed you need. Point and Shoots tend to be slow. Auto-Focus also tends to slow things down.

My Canon IXUS 860 IS takes less than three seconds from switching it on until it's ready to shoot.

I have a Canon IXUS 950 and its pretty quick
according to this article
http://www.cnet.com.au/digita[....]s/0,239036184,339278386,00.htm

The IXUS 950 IS took 1.2 seconds to start up and capture its first JPEG. Subsequent JPEGs took 1.7 seconds between shots without flash but slowed significantly to 3 seconds between shots with the flash turned on.

d-SLR cameras are the fastest out there. They can power up at 0.2 seconds, and some can shoot up to 11 fps in full resolution (the really high-end ones, that is). 'Normal' ones can do 3-5 fps in full resolution.

My Sony α700 (Alpha DSLR) is up and running in .2 of a second - if you want a fast startup, as Mizzle said - its really only DSLR's that will give this speed you crave.

I dont think he is talking about the camera start up time. He's probably talking about shutter lag

Yeah I think QVGA is right. Well that's what I thought he meant. He wants a camera that doesn't take so long between pressing the shutter button and actually taking the picture.

Same advice applies.

Try turning off auto-focus too.

Yes but I'm sure there are some mobile phones that can do it a lot quicker than others. I'm guessing by his first comment that he doesn't particularly want to be carrying a DSLR with him everywhere.

Interesting. These DSLR's are they the big kind? I need something very small, so I can take it everywhere

3 seconds not quick enough? So you're walking around with camera ready to shoot and just want to switch it on and take a picture? What are you? A birdwatcher? Walking around in the bushes looking for some great tits?
