since there are newer phones from SE out there it may look like t68i has been abandoned by SE...
No newer firmware releases, and no sms alert improvement which was going to be fixed (source from a esato user that had been in contact with se)
any thoughts?

Newest official firmware release occured last year in early december so I think that shows that the T68 T68i are both still fully supported.

Will the firmware be free? And where can u update the phone from? Do u think that if they do release a new one, it will include java support?

usually, firmware upgrades for warrantied units are free from any SE service center. Java is still a maybe, but my main priority is not to download new games, but to be able to customize the SMS alert.

Goto SonyEricsson.com and navigate your way to the UK section and then look around for support or something like that... a complete list of address for all service centres in the UK can be found there

As mentioned above the most recent release was december of last year. They don't have exact, or even rough, dates as to when they will release newer firmware and even if they did they won't be telling the general public.

Unless your phone is exhibiting a serious problem the people at service centres won't be updating the firmware for you... not even if you say pretty please with sugar on top. I know it's under warranty and that it's free but they can't just do it for everyone just cos they want it done
