Hi people, I have a system that has FAT16 file system on it. I have that file system on that for some reason so I don’t need to upgrade on that….but recently I had some files deleted and now I need to get them back. They are important for my official use and hold great importance. I know that there is software for recovery but since I have a FAT16 file system I guess that all won’t work on that.

Please let me know the solution for this problem.

Most data recovery programs will work with FAT16. Most of the old ones were built around the time FAT16 was widely used. Since you've deleted the files I hope you haven't written new ones to the drive as that may have overwritten some sectors occupied by the old files in which case you won't get them back.

Though saying that, I've tried a program called R-Studio and it works a treat. Give that a go: http://www.r-studio.com/. Quite expensive though.

You could always try partition table doctor.

Get data Back is one of the best File recovery tools available IMHO. It got a separate FAT version, get the free trial version from here

http://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm

P.S. Only download the FAT32 version (i think it will work on the FAT16 also).

There is another tool called Recover4All, this is an old software, so it will work with FAT16 file system (bcos i used it on a Win95 system back then).

try it from here http://www.recover4all.com/

Hope this will help you.

This is now a bit problem….since you are using an older file system I guess you are right…everything wont go on this one. But, I hope that you have tried some….before going on the hunt for a new one. In our office we Recover Lost Files by a software that supports FAT 12, FAT 16, FAT 32, NTFS and NTFSS file systems. This one really works well and is simple to manage…..you don’t need to be an expert for that. This will be handy in solving your problem.

Hope this will get the data back!!!!
