Hi all,

New here and desperate! A couple of days ago, the calibration on the display goes askew. I try calibrating again (control panel>setup wizard), but even that screen is not calibrated. After touching the flashing points 1 and 2, for point three i keep getting a message " too far from point3" every time i try. Using he jog dial just cancels the callibration.

I just upgraded the software using the SEUS, but the problem unfortunately still exists.

Ironically, I replaced my P910 because it had the exact same problem!!

I am a heavy touchscreen user and just navigating through the jog-dial and keyboard frustrates me hugely.

I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry to say that it sounds like our screen has a fault of the hardware variety, the only thing to do is take it to be fixed at a service centre

thanks AD. I'm getting round to this view myself after trawling all P1i related forums for this problem and finding no solutions. Sigh....

Even "restore factory settings" in the calibration screen has not solved it. Will a master reset help?

What about a firmware upgrade? - I just ran SEUS yesterday - and this is what I have
Phone software- CXC162037 R9K009
CDA VERSIOB - CDA162024/73 R9A

...couldnt find xxxx/73 here http://uiq3.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/CDA/P1i

i buy this phone from a SE authorised dealer in Mumbai, India.

That might be pure coincidence but sounds suspicious imo.

Is it possible that your devices are somehow exposed to (electro)magnetic fields ? At home or in your office ?

Afaik, magnetic fields can damage the functionality of a touchscreen...

Btw, your firmware is the latest.

Before taking the device to a service center you can try to format "C" disk (using service menu) and reflash using SEUS. If the problem persists it's definitely a hardware issue.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD

Yeah, thankfully it is still under warranty. What does "reflash" using SEUS mean? I just used SEUS 2 days ago to update software.

Right, what I was suggesting is to do a format of the internal disk and do SEUS once more.
I try to avoid service centers unless absolutely necessary, even if it's just a software problem they open up the device anyway supposedly to check for "liquid damage". My previous P990 was never the same after being in the service center, fortunately I got a boxed replacement (meaning a brand new device not a refurbished replacement).

thanks. Just to be sure I dont screw up
1. take backup using PC suite
2. reformat internal disk using service information menu
3. update using SEUS
4. restore back up
4. keep fingers crossed ;^)

right?

You should add screen calibration + thorough testing of the screen behaviour and other issues you might have with your device between steps 3 and 4.

did everything. no dice. seems almost certain that its a hardware problem. that leaves only two options. Master reset and lastly, service centre. I doubt if the master reset will fix the problem where none of these options have worked.
a. firmware update
b. reflashing using SEUS
c. restoring factory defaults on calibration screen
d.Service Tests on display and touchscreen

Considering this problem seems endemic (maybe in phones shipped to India, my earlier P910 has exactly this problem) maybe SE needs to poll its users in India to see if more people have the same problem. India is the second fastest growing market in the world and, given our population and mobile penetration, possibly the biggest. I am sure SE wouldn't want to screw up here. Nokia and Motorola are just waiting to capitalise on this. And an IPhone launch is possibly round the corner - Apple has already tied up with Reliance Digital to open Apple stores here, currently selling ipods and macbooks. And HTC is here in a big way, under their own brand and pricing very aggressively. So is Samsung. The smartphone market faces a lot of heat.

Thanks for all the help, I'll come back to post how the SE Service Centre experience goes. Considering the piece is under warranty, I think I should insist on a fresh box piece.
