Forgive my ignorance. I have seen with interest the threads about getting access to the system folders, and then installing Walkman 3. i see why you would want access to the system folders, but I cannot see why you would want to install Walkman 3.

Does it replace the default music player? Is it an additional player?

If it replaces the original player, is it better? Does it support all the A2DP/AVRCP features of the original? Even though the default music player is very poor in a lot of areas, it does implement the A2DP stuff perfectly. This is something that Coreplayer 1.2.4 or LCG Jukebox do not do.

For me, the big plus with Coreplayer/LCG Jukebox is that they play Folders - not a pre-scanned media library. Since I have thousands of files (on an 8 gig card), scanning for tracks is out of the question.

I would be very interested in the Walkman 3 stuff if it implemented A2DP and it played folders.

Yes yes the Walkman 3 (WM3) is way better than the default player, it supports everything the default does AFAIK. i didn't liked the default player, cos we need to put the album art inside every folder for the player to recognize. In WM3 you just need to copy the tracks to the memory card and update the Walkman player, it will get all the track details from the ID3 tags associated with the files. The best thing i like about the WM3 is the search function and yes u can play a given album or compilation at a time in Wm3.

WM3 is installed as a separate standalone music player, so if you want you can use the default player too.

i am currently using my P1 (walkman player 3) + HPM 82 as the main music player.

I must say that the Walkman 3 upgrade is the best one I've done to my P1i so far. I missed the compilation playback and album art from tags in the default player. The default player was also giving me some problems with sorting tracks from certain albums; WM3 sorts them ok.

Well, I have installed it. It was not as hard as it seemed. But I cannot see what all the fuss is about. It is virtually the same as the default music player. It is a bit prettier, and a bit more touch screen friendly, but it basically has all the same fatal flaws as the default player.

It is 'media library' based, so virtually useless. ie you have to scan all your files to add them to your playlists. How stupid is that. I have an 8 gig card with thousands of tracks - totally impractical. I also play podcasts, not music, which is even worse.

Mind you, it seemed to scan all my files in about 5 minutes. not bad. The default player I usually give up at 30 minutes. It might be workable after all?

I had hoped that it might offer folder based playing, like Coreplayer or LCG Jukebox, but it does not seem possible. If anyone knows of a way to do this, I would be very appreciative!

I've tried Walkman 3 mod but I replaced it with Walkman 2 cause of the slowness of the player even with visualizations turned off...W2 is quite fast and it suits my needs.

I use Escarpod too, but it is not quite there yet. It is good for actually downloading the podcasts, but not for playing them. It simply builds a random, linear playlist of podcasts as they come in. That is not how I listen.

Mind you, Escarpod is pretty good seeing that it has to work in UIQ3! Most PC based podcast tools are not as good.

I just noticed this: I listen a lot to livesets (dj's / dance artists that kinda thing) and these are usually 2 or more hours long. The P1i standard player doesn't count further than 99 minutes and 99 seconds, so you can't scroll past 1.5 hours into the track; WM3, however, displays the right tracklength (which is enough reason never to go back to the default player for me) so it works alright

Plus, with the old Walkman player, as someone has mentioned above, you have to put the album art in the same folder as the track.

With Walkman V3 you can assign album art through the menus, regardless of where the image is located!

To whom are you talking? You do not make it clear who is wasting your time.
