@sigea:hahaha that was a good one!
@jeff: "better"has a VERY broad meaning. In terms of tech, the P1i is better as it encompass more tech, more features,etc. The Iphone is flashy, has a bigger screen but other than that, it can't do more than calling and smsing and even those are hampered by all kinds of restrictions.It's more like an expensive (but nicely built and finished) toy.It depends on what you wanna do with your phone.

"better" is quite subjective. Please explain what you want to do with your device - surf the web? Business applications? PDA? Camera? That will determine which one is better. e.g the camera in the P1 is better than the one on the iPhone, but the iPhone has more memory onboard than the P1!
If it is to be it is up to me!

@701

Well said..

I bought one [16 GB] and couldn't stand it for more than a week and sold it off.

A nice screen, excellent build quality and heaps of storage space, but the rest is a joke...

The P1i is a business orientated PDA phone and the iPhone is a fashion phone in the same vein as the LG Prada.

The iPhone's strenghths are Music, Internet browsing and WOW! factor.
The P1i has a better camera, better applications suite, 3G connectivity, better range of Bluetooth profiles, all the things a high spec 'traditional' mobile phone does well.

I am a die-hard SE enthusiast since 2004 but I'm almost beside myself in anticipation of the new 3G iPhone. High speed 3G and a more realistic price make all the difference IMO and I can't wait to get one of these for my wife so she can check her emails and surf the web without pushing me off my laptop. And I'm sure I'll find time for a play on it too...

The best thing is that the 3G iPhone release will speed up the rollout of faster cheaper mobile data so that you'll benefit even if you buy the P1i.

Do not give away your p1 for an iphone... It will be a big downgrade...

If you like watching your interface glide around, go with the iPhone.

If you like phones packed with features and custom applications, go with the P1i. In my opinion the iPhone is a waste... It sells because of it interface and multi-touch.

But UI is the most important part of a phone IMO. Otherwise, I'd be buying Nokia's.

An SE to navigate around the 'real features' a phone should have and a 3G iPhone to surf the net at speed. That's why I'll be getting a W980 for me and a 3G iPhone for the missus. Best of both world's and not a Nokia in sight!

@jeff89,
i don't wanna tell you why you should buy the p1i as you can just go through p1i specifications on the se site but i want to tell you why i sold my iphone after 3 days of owning it.
you can't change the sim card unless you have a paper clip on you.
you can't exchange data via bluetooth, not even a business card.
you can't send a mms, i have tried on 5 different networks in 3 countries in the mena & apac region. even text messages go through sometimes incomplete.
you can't carry an extra fully charged battery for a busy day as the battery in the iphone is fixed & can't be removed by the user.
apple is so cheap that they couldn't even throw in a cd with the itunes software.
you will get a sore index finger if you have to compose a 2k character email as the predictive text sucks.
you can only shoot basic pictures without any personalised settings & the iphone cannot shoot videos.
you have no profiles for the ringers & to activate silent mode there is a dumb physical/manual switch.
you will have no opera mini, no yahoo! go etc. because the geniuses at apple forgot to fit in java.
you can't download music/video from a free site with an iphone, you can only view it.
you will find the pre-loaded google maps application is sad & google maps on other phones is more competent.
you will get irritated of pinching the screen everytime you need to zoom in/out.
you can't play rm/3gp videos so all my personal videos shot over the years with my nokias & sony ericssons need to be converted for apple's lemon.
i thought nokia was crazy & sony ericsson was stupid but now i can say without hesitation that apple has totally lost it. [addsig]

Which is better, an iPhone or a P1i? Well, that's almost like a rhetorical question!

You would have to be nuts to get an iPhone (or a Nokia) over a P1 (or any other SE phone for that matter)

The iphone is such a disaster that even the most objective comment would seem to be biased
