I'm generally an iPod-hater and usually a SE fan. If i am going to continue this trend i need some opinions.
I'm looking to finally get myself a walkman phone and am prepared to spend a good deal of money. Right now I am 90% set on getting a w910i... I love the relatively big screen, slider design, awesome music player software... I don't care too much for the camera, never saw the point of wasting a pair of tiny speakers on the outside of my phone in order to listen to music, and I like expandable memory even though they only throw in 1gig for starters.
My second choice would probably be the 890 because while not a slider it is pretty slick and has many of the same features the 910 has. I know i shouldnt even discuss them in the same sentence, but the 580, 760, and 960 all seem kickass too, they just... miss it somewhere. I dont need GPS. I don't need touch screen. What does the 580 have to offer other than a cheaper price tag?
Should I wait for the 980? It seems a little bulky and awkward when flipped open, but the exterior music controls are a nice touch. I like the FM transmitter but admittedly i'd most likely use a better-sound-quality solution for in-car use.
and ill just throw this in there... is there any non-SE phone i might consider?
what say ye? |

If I were you, i'd definitely wait a month or two for the W980.
I mean, this video is convincig enough (at least for me).

well... heh... i might not have THAT much to spend. A friend of mine pointed out to me that much higher than say 350 is heading towards 3g iphone territory...
plus i might not have that much time. I really waited a loooong time to approach a new phone... and my old one is about to end call permanently. |

Well I think the W980 really is worth it. I mean, it's sound quality is as good as a standalone MP3 player, it has 8 gigs of space and cool light effects. Also, it ahs an improved version of the walkman player (a bit better than the one in W910 and W890).
The W910 is kinda old now, although it's still a great phone.
W890, on the other hand has one of the best designs out there. Build quality is also fantastic. It's very classy. My mum has one (bought it for her).
I don't know, it's your choice. The W980 comes out in July. |

if I were you, I will pick W910 or W890 then buy a HPM-77 once it's available.
from my observations, sometimes it's better off not knowing. |

What exactly is better about the 980 player? and yea, i mean i do kinda like the slider design more but the 980 is a slick phone. Come july we'll probably be looking at like US$400+ for an unlocked no-contract phone. This may make the 910 drop even below the avg $300 you pay for it now. I would rather spend the extra cash on two 8 gig cards or a 16 gig whenever those decide to show up.
One thing that I realized also is if I should ever decide to use the video player function to watch movies or whatnot, I don't really wanna sit there with a flip fone open and held sideways.... or at least that is a basic advantage the sliding 910 has. As for the 890, yes, i love the structural integrity i know the metal body will afford, but I kinda like the motion sensing functions of the others. Mainly for viewing things sideways.
I realize the 910 isn't exactly the cutting edge anymore, but hey, that's the mobile industry.
is there any other reasonable substitute from another brand? I like sony, but i dont want to be narrow minded.
