I'm thinking of getting the Z770, any advice? Does it have any bugs and should I update to the latest firmware once I get it? I'm attracted to the brushed metal finish and also the clamshell form factor. I've been using the boring candy bar phones for a long time now, so I thought I should go for something different. If there's any reason why I shouldn't get it, do let me know. Thanks!

I think about Sony Ericsson because of its listening music feature.

@WhiteEye, thanks for the very helpful link. The review was really informative and now I have a clearer picture of what to expect if I were to get the Z770. If anyone else has any other comments about the phone, please feel free to post them here, it'll be of great help to me. Thanks!

Well, I've bought the Z770. Looks really good. That's what attracted me in the first place. I've not encountered any firmware issues so far, and I hope it stays that way. I'm new to the A200 platform, but I'm pretty much impressed by it so far. I thought I'd have some trouble getting used to the new "Call" and "End" keys, but it wasn't too bad. The UI is relatively intuitive. One gripe I have with the Z770 is that the keys are a little too far apart and the layout is a bit difficult to navigate without looking at the keypad. Overall, I'm satisfied with the phone.

Good for you, deluded. I just bought it as well. Have you tried updating it via SEUS?

@G-Izzat, I've tried updating through my phone, it says I have the latest firmware, R1EA033. Anyway, I've not encountered any problems with the current firmware, so I think it's fine the way it is.

@WhiteEye, there was no memory card in the box. I can't recall if there was a cd as I never use the PC Suite. Why don't you try using MyPhoneExplorer? I don't even need to install any drivers cos I'm using bluetooth. It's so much more convenient.

I don't use the push mail myself, so I'm not too sure about it, but a quick check on the net tells me that the Z770 is supposed to support push mail. I prefer to use the Gmail app as I'm not very reliant on emails for communication and would rather check my emails only when I need to. As for the web browser, it does look pretty impressive. I'd say it's a huge leap from the one on my K770. However, I'm still more comfortable using Opera Mini, so I can't really give much feedback on the in-built browser as I've only used it a couple of times. All in all, the Z770 is a decent phone and I'll be using it for a while.

Thanks for your response. I have MPE on my PC but using phone as modem needs driver installation. Enjoy your phone

I see... I checked the box and indeed there was no cd in it. However, I believe the drivers are available online.

I've got a question though, this afternoon I removed my battery to swap with the one in my K770 and the time and date on my Z770 resetted in that very short time of not more than 15 seconds. Does this happen with any of your Z770s? The time and date on my previous phones (K750, W810 and K770) never resetted so quickly. Hmm... I'm just wondering if I've got a defective one.

I don't think it's defective, because when I take out the battery, and put it back in, the date and time resets itself.

@G-Izzat, thanks for that, it's great to know it's not my phone that's defective then. But in the past, my other SE phones could at least retain the date and time settings for that brief period of the it took me to swap the batteries. Not sure why that's not the case with the Z770, but I'm happy with the phone in general, will not be changing phones anytime soon. Have you encountered any bugs so far? Also, is there any way to snooze the alarm with the phone off and without flipping the phone open? Pressing the volume buttons doesn't seem to work. It used to on my other SE phones.

Hi,

Just got the Z770 today and everything works well so far except for one thing : I can't attach a picture to any contact as it keeps saying "picture too large, can't add to contact" !!

The initial format of the pic was 240x320 ( jpeg ) and I've tried 176x220 as well with the same result, regardless of picture quality.
