It says at mobilereview.com that the downside of this handset is that you can not turn off the gps/geotagging feature and as a result incur constant browsing charges the cost of which is dependant on your service provider(02 for me) and so it is a costly handset to have. SE dont know anything about this, nor do 02. Its not mentioned in any other in depth reviews so id presumed it was more of an application that could be used at will but it sounds as though it is on all the time and costing money.Does anyone know for sure about this as i will have to re think my choice of new phone if this is the case.Im hoping it is just a duff review and that it only comes into action when you want it too.Is there any help out there please???

Just bought the C702, that is not true, I can turn off the A-gps (assisted of your network) or choose just to use when Iīm at my "home" operator.
You can still use the GPS without this, but it takes more time to get your location. And you can turn off the GPS completly aswell.

Cheers. [addsig]

Does the GPS constantly stay on? Say you've just been in the underground for a bit and come up and take a pic, doens't it take a while to get a fix? I'd think the Geotagging either drains battery badly or does't work well...

Like if I haven't taken a picture for a while and I just wanna take a pic, will it find where I am right away?

Hmm, actually Iīm probaly not the right person to ask about this coz I never use the built in speaker, donīt get me wrong, I use "walkman" player alot, but thru amplifier and some real LOUDspeakers
So the only comparison I can do is between a W800, and my stereo equipment, compared to the W800 I think itīs a bit better, compared to mystereo equipment itīs crap [addsig]

No, the GPS is not constantly on (unless you want) itīs turned on when you open the lenscover (if you have geotagging activated). I use the Assisted GPS and its only about a few seconds to get a fix(depends of where you are, indoors, outdoors, outback, city with high rise buildings etc)
It probaly takes a bit more battery with geotagging(not much with A-GPS, a bit more with just the GPS coz it have to searh for the satelites a bit more), but I wouldnīt call it drain the battery. I used it for about two days now, 30 pics taken with A-GPs (none with just GPS), bluetooth streamed music for a couple of hours, bluetooth always on, surfing the web, oh.. and I actually used it as a phone a couple of times aswell , now I have to charge it. How accurate did you find the geotagging? I'm using an HGE-100 and its really accurate...

I can't see A-GPS being too accurate considering its not 'always on'. What happens to geotagging when there is no fix? That would be the main reason why I'd get the phone, so that would also be one of my main concerns.

A-GPS is just a function to "help" the GPS to get a fix quicker, using your network cellid (some charges apply) to locate the satelites in your area, either way youīre still using the gps so you get a very accurate fix. You see a symbol on the display if you have a fix or not, if you dont get a fix you can "tag" the photo later, take another photo on the same spot when you get a fix. Then you can copy the tag info to the first photo using Picasa/Google Earth.

I guess you can run any java based GPS app, like Nav4all, Mobile G maps etc. I just downloaded Amaze GPS to it (freeware) http://www.amazegps.com/welcome.php
, works fine. I havenīt come across any app that allows you to store maps on the memorystick yet, but I think Amaze is working on it. [addsig]

Here is a (pretty) newpress relase from wayfinder that says that youīre gonna be able to have maps pre-installed on the C905, so hopefully this means you can have it on the C702 aswell since they both are "not smartphones"
http://www.wayfinder.com/?id=9265&lang=en-UK

Iīve sent an E-mail to wayfinder regarding this, Iīll update when/if I get an answer. [addsig]

Mobile Gmaps is Ok for stored maps on memory stick

For those who owning C702, did you found the battery cover is a bit lose at the right hand side?
My device after the cover closed, feeling the cover not very tight with the device..

I (think) had the same problem with mine, The battery cover can be (very) tricky to get tight, you have to be a bit brutal and use some force (and probaly use some ugly and nasty words too) to get it tight.
Make sure the thin rubber sealing "around" the battery is in the correct place, stick the top of the cover in first, make sure the lock screw is in unlock position(mine did turn around when I was "fighting" with the cover to get it in place) , squeze down (here is were you use some nasty words) both sides until it "snap" in place, press down the bottom part and lock it........ Phew.... now hopefully itīs tight.
Thatīs the way I did it, not saying itīs the right way.
