Well, apart from the fact that SE doesn't have support, doesn't care what they're pushing out, and think anything they do in marketing should have a magical impact on the level of their software, in the past as well as the future - it's a pretty good phone. Compared to other brands, and the kind of support they offer, it's not too bad either. I'd wait if I were you, though. The next p- devices (if they ever are launched) will have UIQ3.3 and opera 9.5. If you buy the p1 now, you'll most likely be stuck with Opera 8.65 and uppity support- people for as long as you own the device. And won't be offered Opera 9.5 as an upgrade option, or as a separate purchase. It might be possible to hack the new phones (and if someone is taking the spanner to the UIQ3.3 SDK right now, that would be nice), but it's not exactly certain.
Or if you can't wait, go for the new htc devices, if you can bear the fact that it's WM. Apparently they've fixed the graphics driver issue on the diamond, so that seems like a good choice. Not that the battery life and the keyboard, as well as the more clean UI isn't going to weigh in the other direction (just as bigger processor, and better options for handwriting recognition through 3rd party will weigh back to WM). But if you're interested in buying from a manufacturer who at least doesn't try to piss their customers off intentionally.. well.. All right, then there's no one to choose from, anyway, I guess...
Basically, you need to try it yourself. It's possible to be perfectly happy with the p1, for example. And with a WM device. But probably for different reasons.
edit: and you can't copy and paste on webkit and the iPhone, so the browser experience sucks really bad.

Well... we can at least hope that's their intention behind promising (read: mentioning in a whitepaper) more Opera 8.65 versions and fl3 for the g- series... Opera 9.5 - well..

Well.. it does have plugin- support. It's basically just about reading the code, and using whatever in-built (or installed) component there would be to display the linked content, like in any other browser. So if they made an api for UIQ to display flash, that would be possible. The problem, I think, is the same as with java- plugins and realmedia - they'd have to buy a different type of license at SE or UIQ, and start doing a completely different type of testing. ..so.. *shrug*
