I think it seems like one of Samsung's best phones to date. I wouldn't be too worried about getting it myself actually

It's good, but to be honest apart from the frustrating touch pad and HSDPA, it offers nothing over the (in my opinion) better G600.
The touchpad is just that bit too small to make it functional really. You have to be relatively precise and press with more effort than a normal button, more of a swift jab than a slow press really.
Personally it's great apart from that pad, but I'd have a G600 out of the two. Better for day to day quick use.

Samsung have very much improved i never used to like their phones but this one and few others they made lately look great. I have read reviews saying camera is very good and its nicely built with great web browser. Nice looking too. I wonder if their new ones can save camera pictures directly to memory card as their old phones could not. Also will you finally be able to use anything as message alert. Go to a shop and have a play see what ya think of it. |

You can use custom SMS tones on many samsungs these days. the g600 does, the sould does, and my u600 does....to name but a few. |

The G600 does not let you use your own message tones, and from all the ones I've ever seen neither does the U600. You can pick from a small list selected by Samsung, but not your own mp3 files.
The ONLY Samsung I've ever seen do this is the Z400.

100% incorrect. where are you getting your wrong information from?
i have owned a u600 since june last year, so i should know if i can put on my own mp3 files for sms tones.
the g600 allows message tones too because i gave some of my sms tones to a friend of mine, and i've been with him in the car when he's received a text.

Ok, how about the fact I've been playing with the damm things since they came out (the G600 at least) and I've seen several times that you simply CANNOT change the message tone to anything other than the 4 default tones.
I'll check again next time I'm in town, but I'm pretty bloody certain I'm right, as I've had many customers complain that you can't change them.

^ it depends on how you do it folks......
through the profiles, sms you can't do it...
but through media, music, use as.... you can do it
(well that's how it was on a D900, I'm sure of it)

Please keep in mind that Brightspark is the biggest samsung fan that i've ever seen.
Sadly he's also one of the dumbest persons alive, and for some reasons he's got good deals with the mods on the MR forum. |

just tried that method on my E590 (same menu and OS as the D900i and U600) and theres no message option, just set as rington, caller ringtone or alarm tone. So dunno how else you do it lol

SE - You have nothing of interest for me this year so I shall be seeing you! My K800/W800/Z600 have been great and done me proud but I feel a change is in order so thats what I have ordered |

whilst the UI of the d900 and u600 may appear to be the same, they are in fact totally incompatible platforms. the u600 is agere and the d900/d900i is dragonfly. i can assure you 110% that you can have custom sms/alarm/caller tones on all u600s
you can't have custom sms tones on the d900/d900i without a hack, but you can have custom sms tones out of the box with the u600.
custom sms tones were later added to some of the dragonfly's at a later date....such as the g600.
