I would like to connect my P1 over my laptop (Gericom supersonic) so that I use internet on the phone. How can I "set up" HotSpot on my laptop, so that my phone will detect Wlan and will be able to connect to it?

I already tried that today, but my P1 doesn't find any Wlan, it writes "Network not found".

Check your Firewall Settings, try with turning Friewall Off
And try with switching your Wireless Card to B only Mode.
This works on my P1.

I presume you are using Windows XP
Go to Network Connections -> Right Click your Wireless Connection -> Properties - > Configure -> Advanced -> Adhoc Wireless Mode -> Value = 802.11 B only.
May be different for your wireless card, but there will be an option to select A only, A/B/G Mix, B Only, B/G Mix and G Only.
Let me know if this works. |

@ ExSpirit
You need to turn Off and Turn On your Wireless Card for the changes to take effect, there will a Button on the side of your Laptop to do that.
BTW if you do this you cant connect to the Wireless Acces points using 802.11 G Standard with your Laptop. |

Cool, thanks.
It's found now, and when I try to connect, it asks me to set settings on phone. I set:
Security: WEP
Network: Ad Hoc
Ad hoc channel: 1
I am connected to my laptop, but the problem is that I can't access internet on my phone. I messed around with settings and changed things and now I have internet too and I don't know why do I have to change everything 10 times and then put it back to what it was and then it works Oo
Shouldn't I just connect and write pasword and be online, I never wrote password here (well I did write it when I changed Security to WEP and then entered only 1. out of 4. keys)... |

I just disconnected and tried to connect again and same problem again - connected but no internet. Then Wlan not found, and after a while found again and ...
I don' know if it's laptop or mobile causing problems. Is there any application for enabling Wlan and ability to see who's connected...?

I've used Internet through my laptop with my P990 several times.
If you're using XP, it's pretty simple (I've made it in Vista also, but it's not that direct, I think...).
First, create the same ad-hoc in the laptop and in your phone (same SSID and security settings) and allow XP to connect to that network automatically. You don't have to detect the wireless network in your phone in order to create a profile for it, simply create it.
Then, configure XP to share Internet connection through wireless device:
Start the 'Network setup wizard', under 'Network connections'.
Select 'This computer connects directly to the Internet. Other computers in my network connect to the Internet through this computer'.
Then, select the connection that connects your computer to the Internet.
Finally select the connection(s) through which you want to share the Internet connection (for your mobile it'll be wireless network only, but you can select others).
Click next until you finish the wizard and, in the end, select the last option - 'simply finish the wizard' - or something like that.
If you search for networks in your monile, you'll find the one you've created and if you connect, hopefully, you'll have access to the Internet
Hope this helps
By the way, your wireless card in the laptop will have a static IP, for it'll be a DHCP server.
If you want to change your network configuration and (like me) connect the laptop to the Internet through wireless, just run the wizard again and select the second option in the beginning. |
