Maybe someone can finally help us reproduce the fault? Seems to turn up once in a while.

1. What's your sim- card type? (new one with lots of contact storage, old one?)
2. Do you have contacts stored on the sim, and use the sim when looking up the contact list?
3. Do you have sms stored on the sim? Perhaps only for some contacts?
4. Do you use sync- software (Outlook, for example).
5. Do you have any programs installed (other than the defaults) that will access the contacts or message- database?
6. Do you have duplicates of the contacts on the phone- memory. I.e., if you copied the contacts to the phone- mem, but still use and edit contacts on the sim- card?

Yes.

Hmmm....

So maybe - some form of parsing fault happens when the lookup is done through the phone- app. And that might not happen when you use the other contact- apps.

Can anyone else who have had these types of hangs - I know there are some - confirm if they were using Outlook for sync?

Next - can you tell if any of the contacts you're syncing have custom- fields, something out of the ordinary? How does the contact you were using when the hang happened look? Any duplicate fields that were translated somehow in the sync?

Best guess - either it's outlook that causes a malformed entry in the database. Or - it's some form of shadowing of the database happening on the phone that cause trouble (i.e., there's a duplicate happening in memory..).
