I have just got a n95 8 gb and not all that happy with it - I previously had a p990i and loved it, especially for texting etc.

I am now thinking that I will give the n95 to my missus and get a p1i.

Appreciate any advice from anyone

I'd wait a month for the G900 if I were you.

NightBlade,

I bet he liked the QWERTY on P990, which is why he wants to get a P1. G900 doesn't have one, so the same problem as with the N95 will occur.

P1 is a great phone

IMO the N95 8Gb is far better than the P1i. Each to their own I suppose

Well he could always use the handwriting recognition or the on-screen keyboard.
And besides, he gets a better interface (and media player, and that note app. ...and some other stuff) and more camera MP.
Slightly smaller screen though.
Anyways, I said that's what I would get.

this is a totally different comparison.. one is a multimedia phone and one is a business phone.. comparing them are useless.. of course you'll have more "pros" for N95 coz its an "all-in-one" phone compared to P1, which is more inclined on business apps and usage... but then again if you ask me, id still go with the P1 than the chunky N95..

cheers!

As far as I know, UIQ is just the interface that Sony Ericsson (and Motorola) uses in their smartphones based on Symbian OS. Both P1i and N95 uses Symbian OS (different versions tought). Maybe you're refering to S60??

I'd recommend P1 'cause TS, and as kradcliffe said "each to their own"

I'm sorry but i fail to see a comparison here. N95-8GB single handedly beats P1 in everything. The only thing P1 has going for it is the touch screen. In everything else it falls drastically short of N95.
Slow CPU, bad camera, bad video, no video acceleration, no GPS, small screen, small application base, mediocre music player, average music quality, bad speakers, and no EDGE, no HSDPA.
Wow, its actually more inferior than i previously thought it was.

The interface on the P1 (with both touchscreen and excellent qwerty) is light years ahead of the N95 or any other S60 phone, and that makes up for many of its other shortcomings. On paper the N95 is technically ahead in some areas, and certainly the GPS and HSDPA could be killer features if you need those things, but for general, practical smartphone use I'd pick a P1. It's got better battery life, it's quite business like for work, and its just easier to actually do stuff on it.

Having said all that, personally I rejected both phones and went with a Windows Mobile toting Tytn II instead, which has the best of both phones and knocks them both into a cocked hat.

But i heard that the TyTN-II is missing its graphics drivers or something, and that it aint great at video playback.
@ PW
If you enjoyed your P990 and preferd the Touchscreen and QWERTY then rather get a P1, i'd take a N95-8gb any day, couldn't careless for a Touchscreen.

@Boinng

Really so the P1 is better than any S60 is it are you sure about that as personally i think that's plain rubbish. My E90 destroys it on all but having a Touchscreen everything and i mean everything else it destroys it on and has many technologies not even found on the P1 With it's full QWERTY Keyboard not some cut down version, HSDPA, 3.2 mega pixel camera with great pictures, VGA video recording, Flash support in the browser, Web Runtime Widgets, 4" 16 million colour screen, 1500aMh Li-Polymer battery, Safari browser over Opera, and vast array of both free and paid for apps. Oh yes i really should of got a P1 as that really makes sense what was i thinking.

But back to the original poster you really can't compare a Multimedia smart phone with a Business smart phone, Either wait for the soon to be released E71 or look at some of the other E Series devices or even wait for the next UIQ announcement and arrival of devices if for you a Touch Screen is vital. As IMO however great the P1 may be it really is missing far to much tech for device this late in 2008.
