Has anyone else noticed that Track Id is not working while in Flight Mode ? Does it mean my P1i must be in Phone Mode so TrackId can be able to identify IMEI via SIM card? In other words it will communicate with my network operator even if my connection for Gracenote service is made thru WLAN

Actually, IMEI has nothing to do with the SIM card. It's hardcoded into the phone itself.

It might be a bug in TrackID. Most phoes that have it lacks WLAN, so some developer might have missed that internet connection is possible even when flight mode is enabled...

..that used to work before. Maybe they're using some sort of gprs portal id on the phone- model. That would be easier to program, and more difficult to fake. And not so intrusive as checking your imei against a database for the sales.

Not sure I see the point with trying to limit the entries this way, though. Do they want to preempt nokia s60 users from thinking about copying the program to their phones, or something..?

Once again, the genuine SE concern for the smartphone range shines through, I guess.

My WLAN always turns off in Flight Mode!

Also TrackID needs to connect to an internet database to be able to ID the music you have recorded - so no internet - no result AFAIK... :?

Right, but SIM card is beeing used to "read" the IMEI, by the police, network operator, etc

f*ck me, so you can. I've only had a P990 for 18 months and never though to go into the Wireless LAN option whilst flight mode was on. Just assumed that as the icon disappeared that the feature would also be disabled.
