I am correctly re-inserting the battery, holding down "C" and then plugging it into the USB cable. I release "C" as prompted, then a few seconds later it gives me the "ID failed" error message.

Any ideas??

Ensure yourself that you are using the right cable, and that is the DCU-65.

I've tried that, as well as the cable that came with my W900i. I don't know what DCU that is, though. The SE site says to use a DCU-60 cable, though.

Is there a different usb port on your pc that you can try? Switching USB ports has been a fix for communication errors for several people. If possible use one that's on a different USB root hub, ie. one thats located in different place on your computer.

I've been trying a port at the front of my PC. I'll try one of the rear ports. Also, I didn't any of the PC suite or drivers installed, which I am reinstalling now.

I've installed all the software, and tried a different port. Still no luck!

i thought about it. I've backed everything up, but I can't back the texts up, although I'm not too fussed about them. Would it really make any difference?

This phone was fine at first. After the first month or so, things started going wrong and not a single application has installed or not been able to update it!!!!

I did a master reset and even that didn't help! Great!

The other issue is my phone doesn't receive texts messages anymore so I need to update it. Otherwise it'll need sending off under warranty.

Edit: The master reset has made the texts work again. But I still want to update it.
