bit of advice to all, be aware if you use ZiPhone, it works well about 99% of the time, but can be problematic, as it downgrades the Bootloader from 4.7 to 3.9 on UK phones but does it in such a way that you can not revert to bootloader 4.7.

This in itself is not a problem, it only becomes an issue if you need to return the phone for service or warrenty, as they check the bootloader version, and 3.9 refers to early US phones.

A better solution is iLiberty, as it does exactly the same, but uses a thing called Fakeblank, to down grade the bootloader, which allows the process to be reversed if wanted.

Google iLiberty, or use this tutorial

imo still the turbo sim is the best solution, cos every single upgrade can still lock the fone and thats really annoying. with turbo sim it wont happen

Thats not technically true, there are 2 methods of software unlocking the phone, the anySIM method or the IPSF method, both do the same job, but in very different ways.

The anySIM way patches the baseband and allows for unlock to be achieved, but suffers the issue of having to be tweeked when apple update the baseband.

Thats not the same as the firmware being updated, apple sometimes update the firmware and leave the baseband untouched, sometimes they update both. The unlock operates on the baseband, so if it does not alter then nothing changes.

If the baseband is changed the anySIM is tweeked, usually within hours and off you go.

The other method is the IPSF method. This operates on the token level of the baseband, which never changes. It effectively zeros the token and allows the iPhone to use any sim card.

Once done, no baseband upgrade has ever been able to defeat it. It is effectively permanent. It can be reversed, but it is technical, and not for the fainthearted.

Also there is a new tool on the scene called Pwnage Tool, which is the ultimate unlock and hacking method, it effectively renders all future updates hackable, you can neuter the baseband, and run any firmware, and even totally customised firmware, including homebrew.

The unreleased iPhone firmware 2.0 has already been unlocked and hacked.
