Hello guys,
so as the official word was that P1i was the successor of P990, when is the successor of M600 coming out?
For me this phone is the perfect phone for my needs, and i am not changing it, as the keyboard layout is perfect for me, the size, the screen, all make a perfect match!
I suppose such an upgrade might never come out, and there will be just a successor for P1i?

i'd say that the p1i is the successor to the m600. unless you dont want a camera? there are a few prototypes around of the m610 which never saw the light of day - basically a p1i without a camera - but SE obviously decided that there isn't a market for camera-less phones. |

a lot of companies do not allow their employees to bring camera phones to work to prevent data fraud & for other security reasons.
in various places certain sensitive buildings such as government buildings do not allow people to bring in their camera phones. let me specify that cell phones are not banned but it is a camera phone that is banned in these institutions.
thus employees & regular visitors have no choice but to purchase a camera free phone & this a considerable number of people, surely in thousands.
i don't think it is correct to say that there is no market for camera free phones.
the nokia 9300 & se's own m600i still have customers willing to buy these phones even at a reasonable premium.
the imate jaq is not an outstanding phone in the looks as well as features departments but it is a total sell out as it is the only camera free phone running windows mobile.
even nokia has announced a camera free e51.
i personally would love to have a camera free se smartphone, with/without touchscreen, a qwerty if possible, uiq/symbian/windows mobile & definitely minus the jog dial.

Then I'd contend that a blackberry's the device for you.....
What's wrong with the jogdial? I find it the most useful input feature - particularly for one handed use. |

i have owned all of these se phones :
p900 p910i p990i m600i & w950i
as per my experience, with all of these phones the jog dial is the 1st to spoil, be it a 5 way/3 way jog dial.
the jog dial has been the 1st to show signs of wear & tear with all se smartphones. the paint peels off on the jog dial, it becomes non-responsive & it always becomes loose.
naah, no blackberry for me. i'd like a m600i/w950i with windows mobile os & minus the jog dial.

I've used P800, P900, P990 and the jog dial has never caused me any problems.
If I will consider WM then I wouldn't restrict myself to SE, there are other companies that have much more experience with WM. I'm afraid my nerves just can't handle SE's WM learning curve.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |

I would be ready to buy SE without camera, but one without JogDial will require much thinking over ... I am not joking ! |

i am aware that most users find the jog dial on se phones very convenient but i personally see no use for it as i can totally do without it.
it's a good thing the xperia has no jog dial.
does anyone have any info of a camera free se smartphone coming soon?

I too have owned many P-Series phones from P800 to P900 to P910 to P990... As far as my eyes can see, there has never been any paint on the jog dial...
It does become a little loose after a lot of use but not that much... Only once I had a problem with P990's jog dial when it became too loose and unresponsive, but I got it repaired from SE for free...
As for P1's successor, which is supposed to Paris (P5), it doesn't seem to have a jog-dial... I wish it has one... |
