UIQ3 - installing programs - SIS files |
NN1 Joined: Apr 18, 2008 Posts: 1 PM |
I have no previous experience using UIQ3 phones and am trying to become familiar with using the software. My phone is the SE W960
About installing programs. My understanding is this:
a program comes as an SIS file
you copy the SIS file onto the phone
The phone detects the new file and autoinstalls the program
Q1 Is the SIS file an installation file (like an executable zip file), or is it the program file?
Q2 Where in the folder structure should I put the SIS file?
Q3 When I put SIS files into the phone they do not autoinstall. Why would this be? I am transferring the file from PC to phone in Fast Transfer mode, then disconnecting the USB cable and waiting for the phone to detect the new file. Nothing happens.
Q4 Is installing a program on the phone just a matter of placing the files in the correct locations? Or does it involve something similar to the Windows Registry on a PC?

hi
copy the sis file, preferible, in the OTHER folder of the memory stick. then with your phone's file manager select the memory stick and look for the OTHER folder. select the file you copied before and install it.
UPDATED:
you need to disconnect the phone after doing this because the memory stick wont be visible on phone.

A1. It's an install file and it will do all the hardwork for you.
A2. I have a SIS folder in my Other folder on my memory card, although you can put them wherever you want.
A3. They don't autoinstall. You will need to use a file manager app (the phone has one built in) to find the file and run it, just remember where in A2 you put it
A4. No need to worry about correct locations the SIS file once run will sort it all out for you. You'll find the actual app once installed in your Tools menu, but you can move them elsewhere afterwards.
