i just recently bought a k810i and used it for the first time as an internet modem to my PC. i used the SE PC Suite to connect my phone to internet with the data packet switch option (for GPRS/3G networks?).

i noticed in the mobile connection window, the phone is connected at 115200 bps (which is 115.2kbps) which is lower than the 3G speed of 384 kbps.

my question is, is the k810i's modem limited to this speed or is some of my settings wrong?

i was planning on buying an HSDPA phone (w910i) because of its speed (3.6mbps) and it is supported by my carrier. But i may have to clarify first if all that speed doesn't really matter when connected to my PC.

Any help/info would be helpful. Thanks!!

Well you may just not have a good connection from where you're using it.

I guess it's the operator/provider. Using M600i and PC Suite, I got speed of 460.8kbps. My room mate used K810i, his own laptop and PC Suite, different operator, he got 115.2kbps just like you.
from my observations, sometimes it's better off not knowing.

I believe that what you see is not the connection speed to your carrier but the speed between the phone and the computer.

115 kbps is a normal 'serial port' speed.
My old p910 connected at this speed through the supplied cable (even though it was connected to the computers USB port)

My p990i gets 460 kbps with cable connection and 115 kbps with bluetooth connection.

Check windows device manager for info regarding the port speed.

3g has a theoretical maximum of 384 kilobits per second. In reality it will be lower because it's shared bandwidth. What u see as 115.2kbps doesn't refer to ur fone's capability, but rather the modem's driver (in ur pc) setting. I've increased mine to 921.6kbs (which is the max). I haven't noticed any performance increase though. Also, it is possible to increase the bandwidth of the virtual usb ports (in "my computer" properties in windows) which is used to transfer data to and from fone. Go ahead and give it a try.

thanks for all the replies!

i tried to set the maximum speed of the modem, but it only listed 115.2kbps as the maximum. is this the same for all k800i/k810i owners? how did you increase yours?

im using Vista( system - device manager - modems - sony eriscsson modem/ data modem - modem tab). is there any other method?

Thanks!

erm you have to change that speed from right click on network places and goto properties, then right click on your k810i connection, then click on properties, then it will open settings, click on the modem,,, ( k810 ) and click configure and you can change it to 912000 in there

but it wont change any performance, i tried that on 3g and still got same speed around 360kbps, but you can set it to max there

@Kratos

I use both V800 (3G) and V640i (HSDPA) for my Laptop and both connect to the serial port at 115.2 kbps whether using USB cable or BT. This does not however, prevent my internet connection from operating at 383kbps with the V800 and up to 1180 kbps with the V640i

I've altered the settings to 921kbps but both phone still connect at 115.2
Oh well...
