After a long battle with my cellphone provider supplying Vodafone branded versions of the K850i, we managed to push them to provide us with generic SE software.

However, now that I have the generic software, another problem has come up. The phone switches itself off for now apparent reason. This happens randomly throughout the day (about 3 times). Otherwise the phone is not damaged, does not give any problems, does not freeze, it just switches off. Usually at the time, the phone is in my pocket, but keylock is on, so it can't be me doing it by accident. Upon turning the phone on again - everything is well... until the next time.

My battery seems OK - no dirt inside phone, contact surfaces clean. SIM seems fine. Phone not damaged in any other way.

Can X-ray/electrical interference cause something like this? This only happens at work, and I have not had it happen at home.

Currently using R1EA031 S-CENTR-AFR version of software.

Taking the phone in to the shop is an option, but I really do not have a lot of time to spend hanging around when I am not sure that the techs will objectively find something "wrong" with the phone.

Anyone else experiencing this? Anything I can look at myself?

Same thing happened to me, don't know if it's the same cause, but this is what i did... I noticed when putting some pressure on the battery cover, the phone would turn off. Also, when opening the battery cover and slightly pushing on the battery also turned it off.
I just folded a piece of paper and put it on the battery. You'll have to use some more pressure in order to close the battery cover, but, since then, my phone never turned off again by itself.

Hope that helps...

yes, i've had the same problems with my k850 on R1EA031 firmware. try reading K850 Firmware Overview... there are some issues with this firmware.. such as random reboots and BROD (Blue Ring of Death) i was recently victimized by this BROD but i fixed it already with KK Client.. now i am using 037 firmware.. this, as far as i know, is the most stable firmware so far.. i would advise you also to downgrade your firmware first until SE releases a new and more stable firmware..

Cheers!

i have the same problem i just fixed it with the trick someone said above with putting a piece of paper in the battery cover
if u take tout the battery you'll see that there is a spring at the bottom ...and the onli thing that stops the battery from comming out is that little orangish red piece...so it keeps that battery unstable just stick a piece..works great thanks

I have k 850i and when this happen i went to the deeler that sold it to me, and he say it was a firmwere problem so they took it for 7 days while they try to fix it. Ok i buy that, (at the time) then after 2 weeks it happen again, and yesterday i went with the phone back and he say nothing so its not the firmwere problem i quess. Also my phone turn off and on also when it was just on the table so i think its not about the pressure on the battery. I boght my phone last summer maby 1 1/2 years old.
Also the touch screen stop working so i have take it 3 times to the shop.
Quess i should have buy nokia 3310

How about reading or searching the forum before you open a new thread?

Newest firmware version for K850 is r1fa035,it works perfectly, and the 037 firmware works great also, but the battery life is shorter, nevertheless K850 is known for it's rebooting for no reason,I use the 035 firmware & it works normal,no bugs at all.Try to flash your phone with this firmware,it should work normal.
Hope I helped somehow...

I suggest you to upgrade your firmware to R1FA035 using SEUS or search here for flashing the phone using a2uploader. Its most stable and the latest one, as well. As K850i has very low heap memory, after intense use of music player or game or application, the phone becomes very low on heap. And thats why it restarts itself. To avoid this, try to restart your phone atleast once in a day.

Edit: dear zokowmali, pls check. He has not started new thread, he has posted in 20 months old thread. this is welcome.

i did encounter my K850i reboot by itself but that happened once in a blue moon and as our friends mentioned here update the FW to R1FA035, switch off and on once a while or you can try "memory up" which is a jar application to refresh the phone memory
