Why is the P800 better than a PDA with a mobile phone with modem functions? |

Hi everyone! Happy New Year.!!!
Please tell me your views... except for the fact of carrying two devices... heard that one.
Is the P800 so much better than other PDA's? I make very few voice calls but use the internet a lot!!

Really depends what you want. I have a T68 which I have been using to some degree with a Revo Plus but was tempted to buy the iPAQ3870 which a got new at £299 (sick of waiting for a P800). iPAQ & T68 worked great together but I was very disappointed with the built in PIM apps. in the PocketPC. Multimedia stuff & web excellent.
Just sold the iPAQ after 4 weeks (got my money back) ready for a P800.
Compared to a "proper" PDA, it is not as powerful or flexible in that area and if all you want is a phone then forget a P800, the T68 is great.
But !!!
If you want an all in one cutting edge device that does a good job as a PDA & phone with camera & multimedia then get a P800.
If having two devices is no big deal to you then you should seriously consider a T68/PocketPC combination and at current costs are likely to be cheaper than a P800.

A P800 is likely to be more expensive when it first comes out than say a T68i with camera which a lot of shops are doing on contract for free & a PocketPC such as the new Packard Bell, Dell Axim or Viewsonic models (typically £300 max) |

I'm expecting a P800 to be about £500 sim free or £300-£350 with a contract.
T68 current price SIM free Carphone Wharehouse ~£179. Packard Bell 300Mhz PocketPC at Dixons £299. |

thanks folks!!
I know two Sony Clie models have camera's. I also know of a new PDA ZAURUS SL-C700 ready to be released but not sure of a camera with that one.
I would also be interested to know if I could add some kind of extra language support. On PDA's I think it is possible to add CJK support but I don't really know if an e-mail would transmit using such add on support.
I better wait and feel the P800 in my hand!!

I think you should have a closer look at the pic quality... I used to have a Sony Clie with camera (really poor quality) but have now upgraded (!) to a p800 and the quality is MUCH better! |

thanks!
I know the newer Sony Clie NX70v has a bettter camera than the NR70v. But the higher OS in it seems not to support all Palm software. Not sure if that is true!!
I was wondering if the functions contained within the P800 are the same as in a good PDA!
I also wonder about software and what is available but I know it is early days still!!

How many PDA's have got both an inbuilt camera and bluetooth and weigh below 160 grams?
And how much do they cost?! |
