I recently opened a northern rock account to stick all my spare student loan in. The interest rate is decent, but they are deducting tax from what I earn.

I am a student and unemployed so should not have to pay tax, just looking to find out which form to fill in to avoid this happening again and to stop them taxing me.

Any idea?

You can still apply for tax exemption now by filling in this form:

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/r85lp.pdf

Or, in the future, you could just open a mini cash ISA account which is automatically tax free as long as you don't put more than £3000 per tax year into it. (or even more, I think they've just raised the limit actually).
