Yup!

You just need to google for a "sata - ide" converter, readily available online

Something like this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815124020

or perhaps a external hdd enclosure (which will do sata to usb conversion)..

after some goggling this is what ive found out.
i will have to but a PCI card to which i can connect my SATA drive right?
-and will that need extra power cables?
and then i will have to buy a cable that will connect my old IDE drive to PCI card, right?and -again will i need diff. powering cables?

and most importantly,do these PCI adapters work on every mobos?

thank you

The PCI card does not need any extra power cables but you will need a converter for your 4-pin hard drive power cables as shown on this site here:

http://www.alexnolan.net/articles/sata.htm

Your existing IDE hard drive will plug directly into the motherboard as it does now, you will not need any adapters or converters unless you want to plug it into the sata card. You can do this by buying a simple cable converter but there's no point, there will be no speed increase because the hard drive controller is still ATA rather than SATA.

Yes, the two hard drives should work fine together and the PCI card should work fine on all but the oldest of motherboards (say, more than five years old).

Sata converters are a pretty mundane piece of kit and so there are no real market leaders as such. Just don't buy the cheapest one you can find, it's better to spend a little more.

ok cyco i still need help.

the adapter which i got is this one(not the PCI one)
http://www.lextec.com/images/dx_rib273_lg.jpg

i connected everything i.e that module onto the mobo in place of my DVD ROM and connected the power cable.NOTE that the power cable is connected to the module rather than the HD itself, but my HD does not power on.?
will i have to get a coverter that connects the HD directly to the power cable?
tankyou

It's to power the actual card itself. The IDE interface is designed for carrying signals only, it doesn't really act as a power delivery system.

Yes, it could be to do with jumpers They should both be set to 'Master' since they are on different IDE channels and your CD-ROM should be set to 'slave' since it's sharing a channel with a hard drive.
