I know it was only a friendly but England losing again to France is bad cos Scotland beat them 1-0 some months back so why cant England. England have so far still not been convincing under Fabio Cappello. What does everyone think is the problem with the England team cos to me a team like England with players earning the money they do are not worth that much money. For wages that high they should be scoring every match i think its pathetic. I dont think England gel well as a team. I have got to the point where i no longer really care for watching them i think watching Ireland play is better being half Irish myself. Considering the English invented football we are totally rubbish at playing it.

Dunno if this is true, but I heard that the players get paid more for their club sides (Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea, etc.) than they do for playing for England. It's all about money you know, so the more they get paid, the more "encouraged" they will be to perform well.
So you'll see them playing awesome for Arsenal or whatever, and they'll get picked for the national team. But they won't play well for the national team cause they'd rather earn even more playing for their club side.
Thats how I see it, and its what I've been told too. I'm not sure how much truth it holds but it makes sense to me!

Probably true as i have noticed players scoring loads of goals for their club teams and do nothing for England. Like Rooney scores alot but not for England. Could be true.

I also wonder whether their club managers tell them to go easy when playing internationals so as not to risk injury which could jeopardize their club's chances of success.
That's just my theory, I don't know a great deal about football but it wouldn't surprise me...

Yeah that would be a part of it too, considering they get paid more for playing for their club, they'd attempt to keep themselves in good condition for it.

Dunno, I'm ignoring them now until the next World Cup comes along.
Even then, I'll be very weary...

I was in Greece in 2004 on Kefalonia when Greece won the European Cup beating Portugal. The place erupted like an earthquake.

IMO Cappelo is overatted.
He is not as great as every one says. Sure he has won a load of stuff, but he had the best players in the world on each squad. He seemed to make a lot of bad mistakes in the England game, hopefuly he was just experimenting, however if Jose Mourinio was in charge in that game, I could not see England failing |
