Fixing K800 keys. |

Hello, I have been having some poblems with the keys on my k800i a few of them need a really hard press to work or pressing them at the same time as another key will sometimes get it to work. And the backlight seems to go off when certain keys are pressed.
I was thinking is probably something to do with the rubber pad that you usually get under keypads on devices, being out of place. And was going to open my phone to try and fix it as i think its out of warranty.
Is there any way to take part of the front off easily. All the disassembly guides I have seen seem to be aimed at taking the whole phone apart rather than just the front cover. I don't like the idea of taking the piece of plastic off that covers the camera cos apparently there is a wire that could get broken off from a pcb or something.
Any advice would be great! |

I'd also like to know if there is an easy fix for 'hard to press' keys!
thanks

Mine seems to be having most problems around the 3 key and the backlights around the softkeys. Its especially fun when the halfway press on the camera button doesn't work! It won't let you take a photo unless it registers a press halfway down . |

My phone has recently knaced up and the keys don't work and it had something to do with the ribbon from the keyboard under the screen. And I found if i pulled it tight it worked fine, but then I must have pulled it too hard and now it doesn't work at all (I didn't actually break the cable or anything though).
I found out that the problem was nothing to do with something between the pad and the rubbery keys. I couldn't find an easy way to get to the keypad without fully disassembling it so i just followed this video:

I found out that if I pulled the ribbon cable that connected the keypad to the main part of the phone taut that all the lights on my keypad worked and so did the keys! I was trying to find a way of bednding the cable in certain ways to see which part was broken, and then I guess I must have pulled it too hard or something and now the keys don't work at all (but the lights work again, perfectly!). Anybody know what the problem could be, a loose plug or just a broken cable (I wasn't pulling it hard at all, so its not snapped in two or anything)?
Thanks for any help! |

After looking at the ribbon cable more carefully I think its damaged on the crease which can be seen in this photo:
It looks like part of the plastic support seen in the picture might rub against it and have caused damage. It would explain why pressing the broken keys harder sometimes got them to work, it was nudging the ribbon just enough to jiggle it into a position where a small connection could be made. It also makes sense that other people with the same sort of problem have trouble with the same keys.
This seems like a manufacturing defect, Is it normal for the cable from the keypad to be so close to the plastic? Or is it just a faulty batch of K800i? |
