Is there a way to know from which country a specific website is being run from?

yes, afaik there is a firefox addon for this (need to locate it tho)

http://whois.domaintools.com/
Type the address into the relevant search box and click go. It'll give you all sorts of useful information including the location of the servers and (if available) the name and address of the domain name registrant.
Which is often the same as the company who runs the site but even if it isn't, the DNR can be looked up / contacted to find out the details
