Right, being as pedantic as I am, this has always confused me.....
I say..... I'm going up to London, I'm going down to Liverpool..
Geographically that makes no sense at all, but etiquette taught me that you only ever go up to London and you go down to everywhere else....
am I the only nutter that does this or please tell me there are more?

in Scotland down is south and up is north

For me it's a little more local, just towns and stuff:
Up the Cross.
Down the Pond.

Yes your right i hear it so often. Im in Birmingham and i used to hear so many guests in the hotel i used to work in say IM GOING UPTO LONDON ON BUSINESS. I always thought it was stupid as London is south of Birmingham. Duh.

People always get me on that too m8, I always say I'm comming up to see you...they then say, you mean down......like it matters

if your going north you head up, if your going down you go south, asuming your above london you would be going down south...
