Getting aound a filter in my office |

Well I've started a new job and sadly their filter so damn strict.
Can hardly access ANY website, I can't install any programs on the laptop they gave me, and I don't have admin access.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I could google around but that would take ages, and I'm hoping there is someone here who might have had experience with this
I'd love to install firefox, unlock windows media player and the good stuff.
I work overtime these days (up to 5 hours) and it would be nice to get a few minutes to do some personal stuff or even listen to music while reading!

I've thought about using one, but someone I doubt it's that simple.
I will try that though, just hoping to get a list of suggestions to try out at work
Can you recommend a fast proxy? ALL the large proxy sites are blocked by my ISP (they block most proxy and bypass websites in Dubai, Doha, and almost everywhere in the Middle East)

the companies I work at with restrictive filters also block access to proxies so you may find the same
I am about to try GoToMyPC which lets you access your home pc from just about anywhere, and that may be a solution for you

that is indeed a good suggestion Masseur!
It seems that's web-based so it should work fine. (Unless that site is blocked )
The internet in the office is quite slow (which is funny since I work for a top 20 company) so it might make this service a bit useless though if I'm to do anything intensive.

just tried it out, seems that through the website it will want to install a java applet or active-x control, sadly that function has also been disabled on my work laptop.

yeah, I just installed it and then tried to access it from my wifes pc and I noticed the same. actually I am writing this while connected remotely!
fortunately I don't have that problem as I have admin rights on my office pc and can install what I like so this will help me bypass their filters but also let me access my personal stuff without taking my laptop each day

Install the circumventor on your home pc, then you can use that as a proxy to get 'round the blocks.
Alternatively you can use other people's circumventors:
www.gingermath.com
www.tenderbrick.com
www.rhymingmonster.com
The list goes on and on and on and on. Join the mailing list at the top of ANY of the last 3 links I've posted.

Only if the local administrator account itself does not have a password set to it. Otherwise, you need to mess about with a linux boot disk and a certain application that can recover passwords from NTFS partitions...
There's no easy way to get around these filters unfortunately. Well, not without using sabotage techniques which could obviously cost you your job!

you could try using portable firefox, gust plug in your usb stick and off you go. if you get problems with sites getting banned with that then i think (not sure) if there is an addon proxy-like thing??
install this TO YOUR USB STICK (dont forget to select "install to portable device" (or something like that) when installing: http://portableapps.com/suite
and download THIS to your desktop... double click to install (oh and select your usb pen when installing or you wont be able to install. )
open up "pstart" (in your usb pen) and then go into the firefox folder, drag the program over to the open "pstart" window and your away!!
hopefully it will work lol
and you can take your cookies, settings and fav's everywhere!
