Right, I know most people know of apples time capsule. Essentially it is a wireless router and hard drive.
I am rather tempted to buy one of these, the reviews online have been good.
One of my concerns is, is it worth the money. Due to my needs I think the 500gb one is too small, meaning the best option for me is the 1tb version costing £303.15 using the education store.
Is it worth the money? I want to be able to bak up wirelessly as I constantly forget with my current hard drive, and I also like the idea of being able to access a wireless hard drive in my house so I can share some of my files with the rest of my house.
Is it worth the money and would it be more worth while for me to purchase the 500gb model and upgrade it myself or not?

Does it use the same program to back up as time machine?
I only ask because i have time machine and it takes forever to back up, so slow in-fact that i havn't even backed up my MBP once lol

It's just a wireless NAS basically (Network Attached Storage).
You ought to be able to backup simply by copying folders to the network share.

I have now realized that theres no point in buying the 500gb model unless I upgrade it myself, something I don't mind doing.
Anyone know where I can get a 1tb drive cheap?

right, temptation got the best of me, I just bought a 1tb external wd hd.
If my theory is correct it uses the same green wd drive that can be put in time capsules.
I am going to strip the drive, check it then order a 500gb time capsule. Then swap the drive and sell the WD digital thing.
I figure I will have spent £137.99 + £183.03 = £321.02
I will then get back £70 from the wd thing meaning a 1tb time capsule cost me around £250, I can then sell my other 2 hard drives for around £100 totaled meaning the final cost will be around £150 quid
I figure I am paying the extra £100 for the extra storage I need and the other £50 for a wireless router and the novelty lol

I have a home network and server (server down for maintenence atm) plus wireless already, so anykind of NAS is a bit pointless. I'm adding 2 x 200GB drives to the server, which is more than enough data for my needs.
But wireless NAS is a good idea for those who don't want or need a server.

I don't need a full fledged server, well not yet atleast.
I wish I could just use a 500gb time capsule, however as my macbook pro has a 250gb hd in it and my external 500gb drive only has 40gb free (after I deleted a shed load) it seems I might as well future proof myself for another few years.
I think if I divide it in 2, (500gb back up 500gb wireless hd) it should be good.
I will also allow it to be shared on my home network so all my mates can download my files from it etc just not write to it.

yep, it's a good option for a low-complexity home data storage solution.
No doubt once I get my 400GB ready I'll just start downloading more stuff and it'll be full in no time
