Try upgrading your firmware. I believe that made an improvement on my phone, not sure though. Otherwise there is no way to increase the max volume.

Hi and thank you for your answers.

The soundquality is really great, but the volume is not. Even after a FW update the sound is still too low, even when i have the volume slides on max.
Its a complete downgrade from my previous k810i. Be aware of that if you are planning to buy w960i mainly for Walkman features.

One option would be to send an email to SE complaining about this issue. Maybe they will do something about it if they get a lot of these complaints.

This has been a major complaint on all UIQ3 phones.

If you like your music loud then avoid them like the plague.

Best sounding phone ever is the Nokia 6300 - and it's cheap as hell too!

Yeah right! We've seen how helpful that was for the P990...
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD

Hey makbil,

Good to see you are still on form

Yeah, SE responding to anything would be a shock. When I emailed them about the low volume they told me to turn up the volume on my handset.

Arseholes!

I have w960 for almost a year and I was really dissapointed about volume level when listening with headphones, because my older k750 is much more loud, so I tried to do anything to increase volume on w960 but nothing worked so I gave up and thought I will never be able to listen music on w960. A few days ago I bought SE headphones HBH-DS980 (bluetooth headphones) and the volume on w960 became louder than on k750.

So, HBH-DS980 are the solution

There is now the OS volume hack "sound mod lite"

It works an absolute treat on the headset.
